Rep Power: 0 | I have a male customer that is taking Propecia. I can't find it on the med list. He has this weird shaped white area on the center of his chest that looks awful. I have never seen anything like this before. He also said that he is peeling on the back of his legs. He has been tanning for several months now. Could this be a medicine problem? HELP!!!! |

Rep Power: 22 | Since no one has responded, I will let you know what I know as a licensed Cosmotologist. Propecia's main side effect is sexual issues, though they are rare. BUT... with any hair replacement therapy, a small side effect can always be sun exposure. If this was my customer, I would have him stop indoor and outdoor tanning until he gets the ok from his dermatologist. The white area sounds to me like a reaction to the drug. The peeling could be normal.. or if extreme, it could tie into a reaction to the drug and sun exposure. Let us know what he finds out...I would make him sign a release if he still wants to continue in your salon... letting him know that until you see for sure from his derm. that this is not tied into indoor tanning and his Propecia, you cannot, ethically, allow him to continue without a release from your salon. Let us know. |

Rep Power: 24 | Cathlj is giving you sound advice here Tan-A-Rama..... Ask your client to see his doctor before he continues his sessions with you. Better safe than sorry.. If he does sign a release state you have advised him to discontinue tanning until his doctor approves him.. I do not know the drug Propecia...let me look it up tomorrow in the PDR and post what it states on this.. Thanks Cathlj..........glad to have you here with us... We welcome ALL advice here in Skin Care.... Especially good sound advice!!!! xoxox C |

Rep Power: 22 | Tan O Rama My father has been on Propecia for a few years now, he is on it to prevent hair loss... He is also in the sun everysingle day in the summer (we have a beach house) and never had any side effects.. though everyone's bodies react differently. Hope this helped a little Good luck Laura |

Rep Power: 0 | I have a male friend who sounds like he has this same thing. He reacts the same way in the natural sun and in tanning beds. He finally found a doctor who knew what it was. It is some kind of skin condition that is like a fungus. He has to take very expensive medicine to control it now. Some kind of pills and cream. He has been taking the medicine on and off for about 3 years now and the condition has improved but always seems to come back in the summer when he is more in the sun. |
