I asked his dad, and yes it's been about 5 months. He has extremely dry skin and lips. And his face is red. Nose bleeds at the drop of a hat. The past two weeks, he has had quite an attitude. Even towards me. He's a pitcher on the HS baseball team, and lately, he acts like he doesn't even want to play. He's even gone so far as to call me to come get him out of class so he wouldn't have to act like a judge. This is an honors student with a 4.0 gpa. He's even lost interest in his dog. He's 15. I don't see a major improvement at all. I'm becoming extremely worried about him. His dad is going to call his derm. I know he only washes his face once a day. Where can I get basis lotion?

You can find basis lotion at Walmart. I hope he is just using water to wash his face and not soap too. I'm sure he has lost interest in many things. You just need to remind him that things will get better. Put yourself in his shoes-I'm not sure how bad he has acne, but if its pretty bad imagine how you would feel. Maybe he doesn't want everyone looking at him when he plays baseball. When I had acne I didn't want people looking at me. I tried to hide in the corners and not say anything. I didn't want to bring attention to myself. I didn't understand why anyone would want to be friends with me. Its just hard for others to imagine I guess. Things do get better though.

So the name of the lotion is basis lotion. I will look at that. I am going to Wal-Mart tonight.

At about 20 I started having breakouts on my jawline and down my neck for no apparent reason. I lived with it for awhile then had to do something about it.
I washed my face with a ben. peroxide soap & used the differen gel at night and a benzoyl peroxide cream (prescription) for spot treatment and took tetracycline everyday all at the same time. My face dried out and burned so bad at first that I wanted to scream when putting on my makeup or washing my face. The dried flaky skin and redness was embarassing but after quitting the soap and only using the spot treatment when absolutely necessary my skin quit being so sensitive and everything cleared up!!! I also started going for microdermabrasion and that helped the spots and discolorations beyond belief not to mention getting rid of stubborn blackheads and making my pores smaller!

I have been there and pray that you hvae found a great med that works for you! Keep us posted.

about how long did it take for your face to clear up?

ElectricSunFreak 03-21-2003 01:26 PM

I would say it took about 8 weeks for everything...peeling, flaking, redness, spots and pimples to all go away. Thats one of the reasons I started microdermabrasion to help slough off all that skin flaking off and it made my skin soft as a babys butt. I would catch myself touching it because I had never had such clear skin! I also switched to Cetaphil cleanser for my face since its so gentle. I needed all the comfort I could get! :c)

shawnchunn 03-21-2003 03:34 PM

yeah. I bet.

shawnchunn 03-22-2003 05:22 PM

Meltdbutta, did you think that it was bad that I just all of a sudden started tanning allot?

shawnchunn 03-22-2003 05:23 PM

I have tanned so much lately that my skin is starting to itch. I meant to put that in the other post.

TikiTan 03-22-2003 08:56 PM

Shawn .. is your Dad aware of what lotion you are using and that you are itching? You have access to great resources in tanning... let them know what is going on with you.

ElectricSunFreak 03-22-2003 09:51 PM

I found a cleanser you might want to try...I love it. I tend to have oily yet sensitive skin. Its Noxzema Triple Clean (Its active ingredient is Triclosan..its antibacterial) It does not sting or burn and is very creamy and lathers really well. I also found a toner made by loreal that is gentle but helps dry up the oil without drying out my skin called Shine control double action. I am totally in love with Clean and Clear Blackhead Clearing scrub and Loreals NEW purezone moisturizer with salicylic acid. WHat can i say I experiment! But I have found these products to work well and especially well together! Clearasil makes a moisturizer like the purezone thats alot cheaper and you get twice as much in the tube so I have found out today but have not tried it. Look into them and see if any of them appeal to you...but I highly recommend the Cleanser!!!!!!

shawnchunn 03-26-2003 11:27 PM

Yes. I got to much sun in very little time. I used lotio once. I don't like using lotion.

CHUNN 03-28-2003 10:19 PM

Shawn,

For you not to like lotion you sure do go through a whole lot!

Dad

shawnchunn 03-30-2003 09:28 PM

I was talking about a lotion to make me darker. I use that lotion to make me not so dry.

shawnchunn 04-04-2003 11:44 PM

I have started to not ich as much as I was. My face is looking a lot better sinced I tanned alot. I think that it really helps.

shawnchunn 04-09-2003 09:15 AM

Who elese has Acne? Do you tan and if you do do you notice any difference in your face?

CarSmithUGA 04-09-2003 09:52 AM

I have acne, and I tan. I started tanning about 2 months ago, and my face is MUCH, i repeat, MUCH, better than it was before I started! It's not that I have any less pimples, its just that when I do get one, the tanning bed dries the sucker up in one or two sessions. Before I started tanning a few months ago, whenever I got a pimple, they would always leave a red mark for weeks after they were gone. Since tanning, I now scar minimally.

shawnchunn 04-09-2003 10:10 AM

I have that same thing. How old are you and how long have you had acne?

sunny_girl 04-09-2003 03:48 PM

hey! this is my first time posting here. i have had acne and tan as well. currently i'm not taking any prescription strength meds since i do tan. i don't know if your skin gets worse when you quit tanning but it did happen to me about a year ago. my skin had gotten so clear and then i quit tanning and it got worse than ever. i have taken pretty much the same things that the other people here have said, i've also had microdermabrasion done and i like it. i have a few very light markings on my cheek from scars and i wish they would go away but other than that my skin looks great. also i used murad acne complex and it helped my skin alot, i dont know if you would want to try it, but its one of the only over the counter things i used that seemed to help. well i hope this helps.
