I started tanning when i got home last week, and used some lemon juice peeling.....my skin cleared up very well....

To the point where i cannot believe how fast it cleared up.....

Why is there that myth about tanning and acne.....Some dermo's say it doesnt help acne, while others say it does help......

If i remember correctly, from tantalk, i remember someone saying that UV can actully kill bacteria in the skin..... Is that true???

Tanning bed use is still popular among college students, according to a recent study.

Of the 489 students surveyed by Dr. Antoinette F. Hood of Eastern Virginia Medical School and colleagues, 47 percent said they used a tanning bed within the last year. The findings were reported in the October issue of the Archives of Dermatology.

Four out of 10 students believed "a tan represents a healthy appearance," and these students were five times more likely to use tanning lamps or other artificial tanning methods, the researchers note.

The majority of students (92 percent) said they tanned because they enjoyed a tanned appearance; 61 percent reported using tanning beds to prepare for a vacation; and 15 percent said they used tanning lamps to treat acne or some other skin disease.

Women were more likely than men to report tanning bed use, and 17- to 20-year-olds were more likely than older counterparts to report current use of tanning beds.

The study authors used the information to surmise about whether UVR education was working for young adults.

Luv2BTan you are talking about dry ice treatments. My sister use to have them done on her back-they really helped. I've had them done on my face and didn't really notice any changes. I've had acne since I was 11 years old. The first dermotologist I saw was a quack. She believed in everything, but medicine it seemed like. She made me take vitamin A and use a special brand of soap. She thought my acne might have been from the laundry detergent my mom used and she also believed that acne was caused by caffiene. I'm sorry, but I just don't believe that. Maybe if I saw proof I would. I've always drank water and the occational caffiene free 7up and I don't care for chocolate. Well after seeing that doctor a while and nothing was clearing up I quit seeing her. The next dermatologist I went to was great. Like bronzedbabe and amy I've tried everything under the sun. I've tried minocyclin, doxycyclin, tetracycline, brevoxyl, differin t-gel, retin-a, retin-a micro, dry ice treatments, microdermabrasion treatments, clindamyacin, pro active solution, accutane and many others. I've been on accutane twice-both times for 5 months. THe first time I was on it was ****! My face broke out so bad I didn't even want to go to school. My lips and my skin was so dry that I had to apply lotion between every class period in high school. I had to sign papers that said if I got pregnant I would have an abortion and I had to have monthly blood tests to check for any liver damage. If I had to do it all over again I would though. I didn't experiece any depression, but I've taken antidepressants since I was younger so I'm sure that helped. The only side effects that I still have from the accutane are my scars and tanning problems. My face is clear now, but I have scars. I think they look horrible, but other people don't think they look that bad. This summer I am having dermabrasion done to take care of the scars though so I'm excited about that. My tanning problems are-I cant tan from the chest up and for some reason I think it has to do with all of the strong acne drugs I've been on. Many people have problems tanning their faces so maybe thats it...sorry this was so long. I hope your medication is working. Acne is a self esteem killer.

P.S. My sister was on accutane once and her skin is beautiful now. You wouldn't even know she had acne years ago.

Use lotions that are hypoallergenic like D.S. Saving faces (it says on the front of the bottle). They won't clog pores.

Marilyn, use should use "Derm Renew Self Tanner" by Formulated Solutions for the areas u can't tan including you face, its the best self- tanner on the market..im also treating my acne scars, but they are very minimal and i never suffered from "major" acne just a few pimples, which i didn't treat and they left scars
Good Luck!
