Winter Skin Begins With Moisture
Posted on: 10/02/2002

As winter blows in, skincare takes a bit of a different direction. The body's reaction to winter's cold temperatures, brisk winds and warming heaters can crack an otherwise successful skincare regimen.

The winter assault can lead to conditions such as eczema, according to New York University Medical Center dermatologists. It can also make skin look dry and old.

Moisturizers are the key to a successful winter, as far as skin is concerned. It's important to select the right moisturizer for the season. Most people in America use a lotion moisturizer, but dermatologists at Estée Lauder recommend using something that has a protective barrier composed of lipids, or oils, such as a cream moisturizer, rather than a lotion. Cream moisturizers contain less water and more of those lipids the skin needs during cold weather.

It's also a healthy idea to rehydrate skin with plenty of water.

My skin has certainly changed overnight. Just when I thought it was actually starting to look great after adjusting to the hot sweaty summer, it got dry and itchy and I have had to completely re-assess my skincare. Basicly I have started by cleansing less rigorously and applying two coats of lotion. This is what I currently use:
Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash
Swedish Beauty Moisturizer with Bronzer(face lotion)
At night: Marcelle Alpha-Hydroxy Lotion
Any tips to help me look less dry, bearing in mind that I am acne-prone?

Hotgirl:
Neutrogena is about a 8 in ph.. we think its like putting ajax on your face..
use something a little less acidic, when cleansing..
Use witch hazel as a toner, it is soothing and will not dry the topical tissue.

Moisturize with a oil free moisturizer rather than an AHA which dries the skin out..
See if this doesn't help you control the oil and have better results.

Dry skin on the body...??????????

We say grab a bottle of Luminous from Matahari..
This will improve your skin, and help to maintain mositure levels ..
Yes drink your water also.. but as the North wind blows your direction keep moist..

Be sure to exfoliate.. a couple times a week with a non abrasive product such as Pine Apple exfoliant by Formulated Solutions....

the pH scale runs from 1-14, 1 being most acidic (hydrochloric acid) and 14 being most basic, as in acids and bases. 7 is the level at which a solution is considered "neutral". anything that measures 8 or above is definitely not acidic...... it is considered to be basic.

Yeah, I would like to know about this too???

btw, how is the ph in the neutrogena clear pore cleanser/mask???
what would be the problem if the cleasner was too acidic, or vice versa?

thanks

reading the dermascope on rate.Jill.. it is different than than the "topical". or what is scale in hair color levels..
8 is high in dermascope. we see it as a scrape on the skin and high level of moisture loss.

Glad to see you here Jill.. I have missed you..
please pm me if soon i truly have missed you..
