This may not be the right place to post this but I was curious to what you might know Chris? You have a vast knowledge in many areas. So, what products have people used in pill form or do you sell any in the salons that work?

this is something that I know about.... but before I even begin telling you about the different products, you need to tell me a few things.

1) What are your goals? How much weight realistically do you want to lose?
2) What is your diet like? Are you making better choices now or are you still eating the same?
3) What is your level of activity? How often do you work out and what do you do?

there are some good supplements out there but they work IN ADDITION to a good diet and regular exercise.

You took the words right out of my doctor's mouth njchica. I am taking phentermine (a prescription appetite suppressant) but he says you still have to work with it in order to succeed. I have tried to make some diet changes, although not drastic yet. But I have added a 30 minute walk EVERY day to my daily routine. So far I have lost 12 lbs in 17 days.

We sell no pills..njchica is our health babe' and she is very good about whats on the market.

We do offer medical weight control at Transformations International in a seprate location about 1 1/2 miles up the road in the Southern Medical Plaza..
It is a Doctor supervised weight control company.. they use shots and pills to control the weight. but this is for people who fail to loose after dieting and exercise.
This is out of my scope of pratice and I would NOT recommend anyone attempt to do injections and pills unless under the supervision of a board certified doctor .

Diet and exercise is best I think, unless overseen by a doctor.

Supplements are different they are natural I believe and do not mess up the liver or kidneys...

some of them can. You have to be careful about what chemicals you're mixing and in what dosages.

Teresa, I'm happy to hear that you're doing so well with your weight loss. The 30 minute walk is EXCELLENT! Not only will it give you more energy but it boosts your metabolism and gets it working FASTER. Did your doctor give you a ballpark range for how many calories you should be consuming per day? I find that when people are "dieting" they just as frequently eat TOO FEW calories as too many. Remember, anything under 1200-1300 and your body goes into starvation mode and stores fat!

Actually, the supplements that are herbal, aka "all natural" are ones that can kill you.

Those herbal supplements are not regulated. Many contain ephedra which is like "herbal speed". Ephedra has been the cause of heart problems that have resulted in deaths.

One reason these supplements are dangerous is because you could have 20 pills in a bottle...one can have hardly any active ingredient in it, and another pill in the same bottle can be full of active ingredient.

The bottles say don't use if you have high blood pressure or a thyroid condition because they make your heart race and really put a strain on it.

Yes, they will give you more energy or so you think...but so would amphetamines. It all depends on what you want to put into your body.

There was (or still is) this herbal tea that has ephadrine in it...it killed some women. They had no idea what happened. They were young...30s...mothers...

If you do a search, even from magazine sites like Cosmo, you can come up with stories about this.

If you are going to use these products, please be careful.

Tara is right. Doctors are trying to link many deaths to ephedra/ephedrine/ma huang which is also known as "Herbal Ecstacy."

Most of the literature I've read thus far on this topic seems to indicate that people who died while taking ephedrine disregarded warnings about usage by those with high blood pressure, etc. Also, most of the stories I've read are about people who took WAY MORE than the reccommended dosage. Most of the teenagers who died as a result of ephedrine did so because they were trying to get "high" (rather than use it for weight loss) and took entirely too much of the "herbal X."

I've used ephedrine before with amazing results but I'll be the first person to say that it isn't for everyone. There are other products available that are labeled "ma huang free" which mean that they don't contain that particular chemical.

This is going to sound really cliche, but if you do it and stick with it, it works. Go join a gym. Honestly. There are cheap plans out there, I pay roughly $30 a month. There are fitness and nutritional experts there who can assist you with proper supplements to aid in weight loss. All the big chains will also give you a trainer for the first session or two so you can learn to use the machines and weights without feeling like an idiot. They'll also help you come up with a workout plan, which will help you see results more quickly. But as far as supplements, they currently have me on a multivitamin, some sort of fat transport thing, and Hydroxycut. I did gymnastics for 20 years, so I also take a glucosamine/chondritin supplement to aid in some of the joint problems I have.

njchica added an important thing...

ephedra/ephadrine is not the only name this stimulant goes by. You do have to look for ma huang also.

xenadrine, hydroxycut, ripped fuel, metabolite, metabolife, stacker, etc all have this in it...BUT, njchica was correct when she said that some of those pills come free of those stimulants...

BUT, it is those stimulants plus caffine which make you all hyped up...

So. i don't know how well they are realistically going to work when they are stimulant free.

None of those supplements are regulated so i would be weary of taking someone's recommendation to use them.

Many of the people who died from using them had nothing wrong with them...no symptoms..and just went into cardiac arrest. Many were healthy young women who went over the recommended dosage and caused their heart problems strictly from use of these products.
