At one time I could get this stuff called "Tanners Itch Relieve" It contained Panthenol. You can use it straight or mix with water. I mixed with water and put in spray bottles for each room. It seemed to relieve the dreaded itch when people first started tanning and getting their skin adapted to the change.
I no longer do business with this distributer and haven't been able to find it again. Last time I tried to purchase this stuff, he told me that the factory had burned and he couldn't get it. Eric, you know anything about this? |

Panthenol or a.k.a. Vitamin B-5, Panthothenic acid, and the only bio available analog Dexpanthenol (D-Form) is a vitamin required for intermediary metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids, in other words out bodies need it for the conversion of fats and sugars into energy.
What we know; We know this vitamin is present in fairly high quantities in whole grains, wheat germ, bran, some green vegetables and brewer's yeast. I have actually heard of Vitamin B-5 referred to as the beer drinker’s vitamin. Vitamin B-5 is a favorite additive in shampoos, and some of you may have heard of the conditioning properties of using stale beer as a leave in conditioner. (Old wives tale, the chemists joke about, it may have some benefits, but who wants to smell like stale beer, without the enjoyment of drinking it... ) We know it is a precursor of coenzyme A, which is a required enzyme for acetylation reactions and is key for the release of energy from carbohydrates and the production and breakdown of fatty acids. (Think of enzymes like little scissors the cut stuff up to make them fit for whatever chemical reaction is about to happen) We know topically, dexpanthenol (The D-form), an analog of pantothenic acid, is used for treat mild itching, promoting healing of mild eczemas and dermatoses, insect stings, bites, poison ivy, diaper rash and some forms of dry skin acne. We know that a lot of the reported "Tanner's Itch" is caused by and increased need of the upper layers of the skin to be exfoliated due to the drying effects of the tanning process. In other words, the skin is screaming for moisture. What I don’t know; We don’t know exactly why the Panthanol is soothing to the itch or the actual mechanism on the skin. We don’t know, at least I am not sure who made the product that you described, “Tanner’s Itch Relieve”, and I am not sure if the plant burned down or not. Even though we are not sure exactly how it works, the good news, for a lot of individuals it does work. We use Panthenol in all of our after tan moisturizers, and have had excellent comments regarding the moisutrization properties of the products, and the lack of Itch, including our DNA Skin Revitalizer. We make a product called Sonnenmilch for Germany, very thin almost like the consistency of creamy milk, for the same application, very rich in Shea Butter. Mitzi you are one fo the first that I have heard of doing the same thing in the states, I was not sure that this type of thing or product was really popular in the states. Hope that helps... |

Thank you very much for the informed reply. I wish I had saved an empty bottle of this stuff because I am not sure who manufactured it either. I will email you the dist. that I got it from with a little more detail. Maybe we can get something started. My clients really did seem to like it and swore that it really helped them.

okay Eric, I tried one person that used it, turns out that I only gave them a sample cup.
But I went back and found another person that purchased a bottle. Called today and left her a message. I truly hope she still has the bottle. Since it has been a while and I have changed puter programs this is my last chance of finding it. will keep you posted. |

Mitzi,
I hope that you find the bottle, and let me know if and when you do. I asked a few people about the name "tanner's itch relief" and it got me no where so I hope you are able to find the customer. I will be hanging out waiting so let me know... |

Eric T Dann, I just sent off an email to you regarding this very topic!
I have located a client and she is going to bring it in if she can find it. She loaned it to her sister a little while back. I am crossing my fingers on this one. If she has it I will have in my hands this week more than likely. Thanks for the interest. |
