Rep Power: 0 | I read a really interesting article today about how a "near-starvation" diet (by today's standards anyway) in mammals increases life span and reduces free-radical damage on top of the normal result of weight loss. Reducing your calories to 1100 daily (for women) or 1500 (for men), according to this study, would increase your life span, bring you to a healthy weight, and ward off free radicals. 1100 calories a day is not very many...you'd likely have to take some kind of appetite suppresant, at least until you got used to it. But I'd be interested in the results of this study with humans. Link to article |

Rep Power: 23 | I read through the article but, as someone with a degree in Biology, I just can't buy into it...... maybe some people would want to live forever and would benefit from a super-low calorie diet, but I wouldn't want to live that long if I was going to be HUNGRY!!!! hehehehe |
