Rep Power: 0 | This is a new one on me!!!Please don't think "GOSH WHAT AN IDIOT(sp)" Anyone's help would be wonderful!! A customer called and said that a friend of her's who works at a salon and has been to training said that if she used a tanning lotion with water in it she would not get a good tan. Now I have been to several trainings and this is a new one on me. I feel that you have to have water as an ingredient in order to have a lotion. I told my customer that I would love to know what lotions her friend sells that does not have water in it. I sell lines that I am confident are wonderful products(JA, CalTan, EmBay, Designer skin and Glimera) and they all have water in them!!! Am I correct in this issue or still learning? |

Rep Power: 26 | Liz: Someone either wasn't paying attention in class OR the class was taught by an idiot who didn't know what he/she was talking about! First of all, ANY good lotion will help to "rehydrate" the stratum corneum (the "dead cell" outer covering) level of the skin and that alone will increase the "transmission" of UVR through the skin by 30 - 40%. In addition, taking a shower (or spraying water on the skin) before tanning has been shown to "enhance" the tanning process. Thus, Liz, the "water" (usually deionized and double distilled) found in ALL tanning lotions serves a valid and valuable purpose. Don "Keeping YOU Informed" Smith |

Rep Power: 24 | Received this when I checked my e-mails this evening.. Thanks very much Bill... C Subj: Water in lotions Date: 6/4/2002 6:11:51 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: bmease@johnabate.com To: immommy@aol.com Sent from the Internet (Details) Hi, My name is Bill Mease, the formulation chemist with John Abate and have been given your address by Frank Abate. In reference to the post on Tan Talk, you were questioned regarding water content of lotions and the deleterious effect it supposedly has on the tanning mechanism. I will be happy to discuss this further if you have any more questions, but in short this is completely false. Cordially, Bill Mease |
