Hi group!!
my question is;you know how when pregnant women get the mask on there faces, and drs say it will go away in 6mos or so, well my last child was 12 years ago, yet the mask still remains . not that visible or rearing it's ugly face for quite some years now( i can live with it) well now that I'm tanning again, i've noticed it showing up but not where it used to be!! I'ts now along my jaw line to my chin?? never had it there, so why now is it becoming active again,? I have tanned in previous years without any problems until now, |

yes,
It's a darker pigmentation women get on there faces, babies wreak havoc on your bodies and skin!! I have 4 of them to prove this Just curious as to why it now is in a different area? maybe because of skin care products changing something in my skin?? hmmm, just don't know, kinda stinks cause you get darker tanned areas in some places and not others, not attractive to say the least |

This is simple skin discoloration.. a dark shadow correct?
Use an SPF on the face Red Hotts..and use a bronzing powder to even out your face with your body.. Masking happends on the jaw and lip area.. This is hormones.. You are not alone in this.. Many bleaching creams can help tone this down.. be sure before you use one..you are patch tested for 12 hours before using it on the entire area.. Some are very strong.. Micro dermabrasion also will help get your face color back under control.. but going in the sun or a tanning bed will bring the pigmentation right back.. sorry this is a fact.. Fear not.. you can dress the face with a nice powder.. or a self tanner. This is very common.. Good question.. Love, Chris |

The pregnancy mask. Sometime during the second trimester, you may find yourself gazing at a different face in the mirror. Brownish or yellowish patches, called chloasma (also dubbed the mask of pregnancy), can appear anywhere on the face but are most commonly seen on the forehead, upper cheeks, nose and chin. The pregnancy hormones estrogen and progesterone stimulate the melanin cells in the skin to produce more pigment, but because these cells do not produce extra pigment uniformly, your facial skin may acquire a blotchy tan. (If you have ever taken oral contraceptives, you may already have experienced this particular hormonal side effect.) Brunettes and darker-skinned women may notice darkened circles, resembling eye shadow, around their eyes. Chloasma cannot be prevented, but you can minimize the intensity of these blotchy, darkened areas by limiting your exposure to ultraviolet light (that is, sunshine), which further stimulates melanin production.

http://www.skinsite.com/info_melasma.htm Melasma Definition: Melasma or chloasma is a brownish discoloration of the face that occurs most often in women. Men can also develop this problem. The brown color often fades in winter and gets worse in the summer. Cause: Pregnancy (mask of pregnancy) is the most common cause of melasma. Women who are taking oral contraceptives are at risk of developing melasma. Sunlight is a major factor in the development of melasma. Treatment: Do not use skin lighteners or bleaching creams containing steroids. These can cause permanent skin damage including permanent redness, thinning and blood vessel streaks. Also avoid skin lighteners or bleaching creams containing mercury as this is a poison. A strong sun screen such as Shade Lotion SPF 45 should be applied to the face each morning. Hydroquinone 4% cream (available by prescription) applied to the face twice a day (in the morning before applying sun screen and later in the day) is the main treatment for melasma. Retin-A cream applied to the entire face each night before bed has been shown to be an effective treatment for melasma. _________________ Tanning Booths, for people that want only the very best.
