Rep Power: 23 | Something Christine said in the thread about meal replacement bars got me to thinking... We all are pretty concious about what we put INTO our bodies... reading labels, counting grams of fat, watching the salt and avoiding too much sugar or additives. We are maniacs about putting the "right" things into our bodies. But, how many of us actually flip that bottle of lotion, moisturizer , body spray, shower gel or hair care product and read THAT label??? I've begun to tell our tanners that very thing. How many know EXACTLY what it is they are smearing, rubbing and spraying on their body or in their hair? Do you read your label? Should we be so mindful of what goes into our bodies, yet we neglect the outside... failing to be aware of what we are exposing ourselves to? What are you putting on your body? |

Rep Power: 23 | I remember reading a thread somewhere about how one tingle was caused by "natural" vitamin, methyl nicotinate, while other companies used "synthetic" chemicals, benzyl nicotinate. This poster was trying to make a case for using "natural" vitamins vs. synthetic vitamins.... As a person with a degree in science, I freaked out. THEY'RE BOTH CHEMICALS!!!! Our bodies are loaded with chemicals, vitamins are chemicals, etc... and methyl and benzyl nicotinate are practically the same chemical--with only 1 minor substitution of a methyl or benzyl group to the compound. Naturally synthesized or made in a lab, they are chemicals and we can't live without them. Sorry for the rant.... I was just reminded of that ludicrous argument again... *breathing deeply* I don't watch too much what I put ON my body... or in it for that matter. (unless it directly affects my jeans size!!!!) Give me the antibiotics, the tanning lotions, the nice-smelling conditioner, the anti-anxiety drugs.... I'll take 'em all!!!! |

Rep Power: 27 | LOL njchica, You did say you teach school! I bet you need lots of chemicals after a long day at school. LOL Yes, it makes sense to read what you are putting on your skin, as well as what you put in your mouth. Just never really gave it that much thought. |

Rep Power: 24 | Bronze .. you are right.. we should read labels.. I am a label reader, I an allergic to so many things.. Take seaweed for instance.. If a product having seaweed in it touches my skin I rash up in a minute..and my throat can close up.. NOT A PRETTY SITE...... yet I can swim in the bay and live seaweed doesn't bother me..something in the chemical process of seaweed reacts to me.. We must read..and know what we can use and what we must aviod. Thanks for bringing this up.. |
