It will NEVER be the way it used to be, ever.
If anything, maybe the salon with the five beds will sell and you could put in better equipment. I would find a better way to spend my money though.

You mean $15,000 per year rite? I consumers are alot of nay Sayers on here as well. Jmo

She's saying it cost $15,000 to install the electric for the beds when she opened.

You must look closely at the market and startup and operating cost. If this is a small suburb, high income, the rent will be very high and that is a problem.

You must break the demographics down further. Look closer at the actual target audience instead of total population.

As far as size, you can accommodate a large number of tanners with 6 systems leaving a little room for growth or additional services.

I think you must take a much more comprehensive look at the market and competing salons. If those are sub standard salons they will be a non factor if you are properly structured and operated.

You must also take a look at start up and operating cost that will vary substantially in different markets.

A little more homework must be done here.

I consumers??

There are lots of naysayers on here because most people have been there done that and learned from it. Had I discovered the boards, I would have set up my salon completely different or may not had opened at all (tanning salon that is). I have seen many people lose their homes and even spouses over tanning salons being bad investments.

I have seen the salon owners that open and operate salons correctly, become very successful and end up with multiple salons by purchasing failing salons and opening new ones. If you open without a proven business model or being underfunded, you are likely to fail. That is the same in any industry. Just wanting to open a business will not insure your success. Buying an existing salon without knowing the changes needed to make it successfully and having the additional funds to make those changes will simply make you the new owner of a failing salon.

I also see failing salons turned around and made very successful when you buy the right salons and make the required changes.

Make sure you set up your salon properly in the best possible location and have enough money to market that salon while you build your client base.

My salon did well. I just was burnt the heck out. I bought it as an investment, it paid me back in one year and I was always profiting. I didnt want to fight the battle anymore nor deal with the tan tax, so I closed and went sunless

Re: DemOgraphics

It may depend on the rent, the prices you can charge, and what will make you stand apart from the other tanning salons, but: With a population of 8000, it sounds like the market is already really over-saturated.
