I'm starting a small/medium fitness gym in Las Vegas and am considering offering some tanning options. The mega-gyms here do not offer tanning, but most of the smaller neighborhood gyms do. Our location is going to be 6500 feet, and we are hoping to have a member capacity of around 900 people.
It crossed my mind to offer a
spray tan booth in addition to a stand up booth. Our facility will have a few showers people can use prior to application. Being in the health business, I think we will be able to market the healthy options in the club (responsible and less frequent use of the lighted booth, or regular use of the spray booth). I tried googling around online and was unable to find any gyms actually offering the Mystic or Versaspa style automatic booths, though a few gyms offer hand spraying by appointment.
I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions from industry experts on what you think of this idea. I like what I'm reading about the new Heartland Pura, I think I saw its selling for around 25k? I'm also hoping to get a heartland standup.
PS: I know members and salon owners here likely have a bad opinion of fitness facilities offering tanning. I think the way many gyms do this they make many mistakes. We intend to follow industry standards in administering use the booths, customer education, and sanitation. This isn't going to be a free addition to our membership, rather, a profit center with a strong synergy.
