Unhappy rebuilding a salon

I bought a salon 8 months ago the salon was run into the ground the old owner never worked would be closed for weeks without notice and so much more!!! Anyway to say it was run down but the owner before her had great numbers cause she cared and she was here for 15 years, so i'm rebuilding the business, but i'm not having a busy season cause she ran off so many customers, i'm starting to have them come back in as word of mouth goes around town.

But i was thinking bringing in red light to help out and make more.

Just looking for ideas???? I Have 6 beds could be more they are just set up funny i could fit 2 more in here we also have spray tanning.

Re: rebuilding a salon

have you done a mailer to the current database? have you done an email blast to the current database? are you offering special deals for facebook/twitter? do you have you/your employees visiting other local business giving out flyers with specials? Google adwords? referral cards for current clients to pass out that reward them as well?

I must caution you. If a salon is not properly structured and marketed, adding a new service will not increase sales. You must first get the most out of the services you offer before adding new services. If you are not doing a good job of marketing tanning, you are not likely to market the new service any better. Spend that money on evaluating your existing salon and making the appropriate changes to get the most out of tanning.

Re: rebuilding a salon

Totally agree with what Steve says.....

Take the money you would spend on 'new service' and invest in getting word out on new owner/manager/better service

Re: rebuilding a salon

You can forget about red light. No one is selling the units and it will be very hard to find the lamps.

A complete salon evaluation is in order to determine where you are leaving money on the table. It is not as simple as just more marketing. Some needed changes may have nothing to do with market and more to do with structure.

Re: rebuilding a salon

Yes i thought about having a salon evaluation done and bringing someone in to tell us what to change and what to keep so that we can turn a better profit
