Help with exel formula - tanTALK

I used wording so as not to confuse. How in the world do I write this formula for EXEL? I have tried several ways and it is %$^&Value^*(& to me.

B3 thru b10
minus
b11 thru b12
plus
b13 thru b14
minus
b15
plus
b16 thru b20

you highlight the cell you want the answer to show up and then CUT AND PASTE that into the formula box at the top

=SUM(B3:B10)-(B11+B12)+(B13+B14)-(B15)+SUM(B16:B20)

yup...was just going to tell you that...you have to get the sum of them first in brackets or it will just be a run on equation.

what's the difference between

SUM(B16:B20) and (B13+B14)

actually what does the : do?
