Rep Power: 0 | Re: Dan Humiston For Congress... :( Jim: Agree with you, not a good night for Dan and not a good night for the Professional Tanning Industry. I received a phone call from Dan late last evening (was already asleep). He thanked me and all of us for supporting his campaign. I plan to call him back this morning. I am sure, like all of last nights runner ups, he needs to determine what his future plans will be. Personally, I hope that he regroups, evaluates what happened positive and what he learned and goes back after it. But quite frankly, that is his decision. I know that he and the Tanning Bed Team put in countless hours and met with thousands of people and attended countles dinners and lunches to try to get their message across. They are all to be congratulated for their hard work and for their dedication to Dan's Campaign. Tanning may have missed its very first chance to be represented in Congress, I don't think that "our" fight to be represented in Congress is over! Dan - thank you and your team for your efforts! We are behind you, now and in the future! Max Recone Last edited by Max; 11-05-2008 at 05:29 AM. |

Rep Power: 68 | Re: Dan Humiston For Congress... :( To each his own. I'm sure Dan would have worked his *** off on behalf of the indoor tanning industry. And I'm also sure that this minor setback will not deter him from continuing quest for political office, or for working to improve the political future of the indoor tanning industry.

Looking back on the demographics of the president vote... many of the race and life-style percentages for/against made some sense. But ONE was exceptional: Something like 85% of single women voted Post Turtle. Thinking back to my days in the singles bars... only about 30-35% of them were loose if-it-feels-good-do-it types - interested mainly in youth, bad-boy, charisma, black shirt gold chain guys. Mullets helped too lol. Has it really changed that much now days? If so... the republicans gotta go find some Brad Pitt type to run next time! No more wrinkley old guys! | |

Rep Power: 24 | Re: Dan Humiston For Congress... :( Being from the area, no one had a chance against Brian Higgins. He has held that position for a while and is well known in the area. I only saw a few Humiston signs in spotty areas LATE in the campaign trail. I saw Dan at a 1 lawn fete and that was it. I really don't think he got his point across to the voting public.

Rep Power: 26 | Re: Dan Humiston For Congress... :( Higgins was first elected to Congress in 2004. He has the force of incumbency and the easier fundraising that comes with it. Dan was crushed by an inability to raise the huge dollars needed to run a competitive race. The operative word here being, "competitive." A competitive Congressional race costs more than $1 million. Higgins has plenty of campaign funds left that he never had to touch. Look: http://www.opensecrets.org/races/ele...11&goButt2.y=6 All things considered, I think Dan did well for his first time out on an uneven playing field on a day when Dems kicked azz coast-to-coast. The numbers as of Oct 15th... Brian M. Higgins (D) * Raised: $1,031,864 Spent: $702,833 Cash on Hand: $715,358 Last Report: October 15, 2008 PAC contributions $382,306(37%) Individual contributions $643,377(62%) Candidate self-financing $0(0%) Other $6,181(1%) Daniel J. Humiston (R) Raised: $168,207 Spent: $153,585 Cash on Hand: $14,620 Last Report: October 15, 2008 PAC contributions $10,400(6%) Individual contributions $142,621(85%) Candidate self-financing $14,886(9%) Other $300(0%) http://www.opensecrets.org/races/sum...e=2008&id=NY27 Last edited by Ezliving_Jim; 11-08-2008 at 10:52 PM. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Dan Humiston For Congress... :( Jim: As usual, an excellent recap of the total situation. For those that say, "Screw Dan" he got himself into this, I have to say that, in my opinion and I think the opinion of many others, that our Industry (Professional Tanning) would have to be better off with a good guy and an industry person in Congress. So, net - "one win - we all win - one lose - we all lose". I respect everyone's right to not contribute, but cannot possibly understand the simple mindedness of some who think Dan got what he deserved and that it is tough luck for him and him alone. Try to remember - both the FDA and the FTC report to Congress and have to take meetings with Congressman upon request. The good news, is that many congressman now know Dan and this will be a help to us all! Megatanman - I hope that stripper and drug dealer will help you when the regulators come calling! As usual, a "just hit enter" coward who will not identify himself so that all can see the genius behind the post! Believe it or not, Dan was trying to even protect your right for genius. I hope that each person does help with the debt that was accrued, total now around $31,000.00. www.humistonforcongress.com Happy Tanning! Max Recone |
