Re: $50 Billion GM Bailout

That's true. People that work 25years and have been retired for 30 aren't helping.

Re: $50 Billion GM Bailout

They don't have 10 years. They have today. 60 minutes or one of the other news magazine shows had a show on the problems that the Big 3 had. They showed this huge meeting hall that had rows and rows of tables and chairs.

This is where the "quote" laid off workers went everyday. They went to this hall and sat and read the paper or played cards or what ever they wanted to do and they got paid their full salary. They produced nothing except material for the waste treatment plant. It stated that GM had spent 1.5 billion dollars that year on this type of lay offs and we wonder why we can't compete with the other car makers.

Re: $50 Billion GM Bailout

Maybe if the cars were any good then MAYBE the workers are worth the money. Clearly the union is NOT holding up their part of the deal which I WOULD THINK is providing quality work.

Your right, but the same fatcats that were worried about profits, bonuses and dividends were too worried about the bottom line rather than the future of the business.

You blame the workers?I blame executive mgmt.My father was a plant manager of one of the biggest stamping outfits in Cleveland, which also was union. He was one of the main contract negotiaters

As many times as the"company"had the workers on the "ropes" when it came to contracts, they caved in...Why?I can tell you why, because of capitalism and greed. The big 3 could have done the same, but were not willing to take the initial hit.It was not the"workers",but the top brass and shareholders who did not want to lose their bonuses, dividends and fringe benefits when sales slumped due to massive reconstruction.

Re: $50 Billion GM Bailout

I blame both. The workers for asking for too much and management for going the easy route.

Good luck with your surgery, Steve. You are in my prayers. Tell your docs to not skimp on the aftermarket parts.
