Any Mac users out there?

Ya... so after a little tweaking.....

Yup. Helios is running on my iMac at the salon. Its pointing to a Dell server so no need for a connection to the T-Max Manager Pro. Its scary how much faster it runs than any of the new dell workstations I have that are running as clients.

Next step... replace the workstations with some fancy new iMacs or MacBook Airs. I like a clean counter! :D

So how did you get Helios working on OSX, is Parrallels or some other emulator running it? I have been wanting Helios to work on OSX since we openned, I begged them to see about porting it over, but they said they had no plans to. Any help would be great, we would love to get rid of the archaic Helios software anyway, so outdated, reminds me of MS-DOS days with the cheesy coding you must do. Drag n' Drop is the way to go, wish Helios would realize that.

I cant believe your sig says "occifer....." Long story...

Anyway, yup its Parallels in Coherence mode - so it floats around like another Mac app. You will still need a PC as the server unless you want to invest in an USB adapter for the T-Max or buy a new USB T-Max. Either one should work since the T-Max is a VERY simple serial device from 1922.

I know what you mean about Helios though. I really hate it, its the best of the worst. There are some REALLY sharp POS systems out there. If I was a programer I would be all about making a tanning software suite for da Mac!

How long have you been running this set-up? Any problems at all? Have you had to use Helios support when running this way? Are they ok with you running this way. I have the USB adapter for the Manager.

I'm REALLY wanting to clean up and drop kick this PC.

How long... um... a few hours.... :D No problems so far besides the fact that I forgot PC dont use a time server, at least I dont see an option. So it thought it was the 12th, not the 11th on that virtual little machine. That caused a date problem in the other computers. Easy fix though.

Given that the busy season is upon us here, I really wont switch over to Macs for a while. But I will buy an USB adapter to see if I can completely remove the PC end of things. THAT would be NICE!

Re: Any Mac users out there?

It would be easier to use a MAC than a PC. When we purchase our Dell we specifically ordered the computer with two serial and two parallel ports. I spent at least one half hour explaining how important the computer have these ports and was told we would have to wait two weeks to get this custom computer. In three days the computer arrived with no serial or parallel ports. Comp USA had a PC card with parallel ports and Best Buy had a PC card with Serial Ports but would not work with the T-Max. I had to purchase a USB to Serial Adaptor. When we called Dell they denied ever agreeing to provide parallel and serial ports. As our computer died we had no option but to struggle.

Today you can no longer purchase parallel port or serial port cards and install in a PC, they will not work with Vista and as such they are no longer available. however, if you purchase a MAC and Windows XP, you can still obtain USB to serial and USB to parallel adaptors for a MAC. We have a star printer, cash drawer, touch screen and T-MAX. I have owned 10 MAC computers and they work without having to think or spend hours installing removing and reinstall software. I wish you could purchase software for MAC period and end all this mickey mouse stuff, PatParadise, (IMWW)

The Star printers are what kills me. I wonder if I can get a USB adapter for those too? If not, I will have to but the USB version. I sorta want new ones anyway, these do not automatically cut the paper and for where they are going they need to. But they are SO expensive and I got these two for free.

I believe you can obtain USB to parallel port adaptors for a MAC and I will check out a few web sites for you, PatParadise, (IMWW)
