So when something doesn't work just right you need to figure out which layer of complication is causing the problem. Why would you want to go down that road?
Haha....

Well first whats the difference besides buying another PC or a Windows incense? Buying another PC box will cost more!

No hoops to jump through, not sure what you mean by that.

Macs are cheaper than a the same equipped PC box and they use the latest hardware, not some two year old crap.

So why go down the road? Reliability. Running windows as a virtual machine is fast and safe. Helios will just be another program on the Macs like any other. But if the virtual machine flips out, as Windows OFTEN does, all I have to do is dump the image file and copy a new one over in less than a minute. One minute of down time if something goes wrong. You can NOT say that about a PC. Heck, no need to even re-boot!

I will never have to deal with the headaches of Windows again.

Re: Any Mac users out there?

I have only crashed one Mac hard drive on my laptop but I dropped in the hard floor at least three times. My Mac guy charged $330 and the machine was up and running with new 120 gig hard drive, free upgrade to OS 10.4 in 30 minutes. Macs are great and helps us smart people make more money. Hey PC keep advertising and help people to stay stupid so we can make real money, PatParadise, (IMWW)

1st Hoop Its pointing to a Dell server so no need for a connection to the T-Max Manager Pro.
2nd Hoop Parallels in Coherence mode
3rd Hoop You will still need a PC as the server unless you want to invest in an USB adapter for the T-Max or buy a new USB T-Max

Macs are cheaper than a the same equipped PC box and they use the latest hardware, not some two year old crap.

That can be argued all day

But your running windows on your mac. In a virtual machine no less. Take windows out of the mix and all you have is a mac.

I'm not trying to knock you or what your doing I say to each their own. But until someone writes a tanning POS software for OSX your still stuck with windows. You can put lipstick on a pig but in the end you still have a pig.

I spend all day working on PC's and Mac's and your setup is cool and all but I just can't see it being a realistic solution .

Re: Any Mac users out there?

Hoops as you put it:

1: There is no need for a Dell server, I will likely use one though. How is that a "hoop"?
2: How is coherence mode a hoop? Its running just like a native Mac app, especially with a skin installed.
3: $30 adapter is a hoop?

Your trying to make it seem like a ton of work. I dont understand why? This is not a PC hating so I want to use a Mac thread. I had Helios up and running on the test iMac in less than 30 minutes.

Let me explain why I am doing this. I am a former Cisco certified network engineer. I have dealt with Windows, Unix and all the other OSes ending in "ix". In the end Macs do what I want them to do, so I am pretty much a Mac user - for the most part. Ok?

So... I also do all my own web design, desktop publishing and I do it on a Mac - the platform of choice. I also do all by QuickBooks on a Mac and tons of other daly things. I would prefer to have just one computer to keep on the counter instead of running around to different machines. I can do any work I need to and the client approaching the counter is none the wiser to the fact that I was just balancing the books or updating the site.

Also keep in mind I am already "pointing to a Dell server" since I have multiple workstations.

Benefits:
One platform to get all my work done.
Easy backup solution and restoration - critical for ANY mission critical software
More professional counter presentation - no more IBM LCD displays with 3 cables running down the back.

I see no downside. I already have half the hardware and I can sell the PC hardware to offset the balance of another Mac workstation.

"But until someone writes a tanning POS software for OSX your still stuck with windows. You can put lipstick on a pig but in the end you still have a pig."

I totally agree and I wish there was a tanning module for a Mac POS solution !

Keep in mind this is not as complex as some see it. All thats happening is that Windows is running Helios in coherence mode. Essentially is one app. Windows is just the back-end. Nothing magical going on. I did this all the time with virtual servers - Windows within Windows.

Anyway. Lets not turn this into a Mac versus PC thread, not saying you are even trying to, I just did not intend for this thread to go that way. I shall lock if need be!

The idea was for, like others, who prefer a Mac but "HAVE" to have a PC for Helios can have an option. Thats all! Why buy two computers when one can do the job better.

Re: Any Mac users out there?

I understand what you are trying to accomplish now. If you can get everything on one platform that is the ideal setup and makes sense for your needs.
