Need to vent here!

My twin sister works as a secretary in a NYC care facility. They have children from 0-21 with disabilities (autism, down syndrom, etc.)
2 weeks ago one girl who is 19 and weighs about 300 lbs came in to talk to my sister during her lunch break. As she was leaving my sister's office she felt dizzy so my sister helped her out to go outside but in the process she fainted and fell on my 135 lbs twin sister.

My sister got her right knee crushed in the process and was taken to the hospital and went under surgery. They removed a piece of her hip bone to make some sort of a knee cap with it. She was in the hospital for 7 days and then got transfered to a rehab center last Friday.

Yesterday nite I talked to her and some therapist came to see her during the day and said the workmen compensation board doesn't want to pay so she will have to leave the rehab centre and go home with her stitches, staples and all.

Moron said that it was her own fault a patient fell on her and that she should have known better than to try to keep a 300 lbs lady from falling!!! What was she suppose to do, step sideways and say oops!

So now she has to hire a lawyer to figure out what she needs to do.

I am passed the upset stage, I am really mad!

Oh my gosh. I hope your sister is ok. That is going to be a very interesting lawsuit (if she sues).

Gidge, that is so ****ed up... that is what society has come to, huh? don't dare HELP someone...

our employee that just left us for college worked at a center taking care of autistic children, ages 2-5... and she was not "allowed" to touch the children, the center feared lawsuits! she wasn't allowed to comfort the children or hug them... no affection! some autistic children don't like to be touched... but some THRIVE on touch! too bad for them!

the fear of lawsuits is getting out of control!

I know this will work out for your sister... because she did what was right... she helped someone!

Isn't this the reason why we have worker's comp insurance? We have it if they aren't going to actually pay out?

O Gidget, this sucks! If necessary I do hope your sister will sue, because this is so unfair!

Take the money and run and blame everyone else.

If you DIDN'T help her you'd be SUED for not doing so.

I agree and worse part is that its just as bad here in Quebec. Yes medicare and health system are great but the CSST (Workmen Compensation) is just as stupid. My father in law was missing a leg due to a work accident and EVERY single year he had to get his doctor to fill out papers stating he was missing a leg.... WTF, was it suppose to grow back???

Just thinking that half my pay cheque goes out in taxes for those morons makes me sick!

As for the lawsuit you bet she will go thru with it unless they back off.

I am not the type that would be sue crazy, but i think this instance is definately grounds for it!
