Kids in the sun

Ever since I started researching every thing on here and all the info the internet has to offer I started trying some things with my own kids. So far we have had great weather and a few months back we went to Santa Cruz too. So, I didn't use any spf right away, let them run around the beach for 1 hour, then I put spf 15 on them and put their shirts back on. We stayed out there (the beach) all day, you know what, they had a tan the next day. No sunburn, just a little color. So, every time they are outside if they want to run around I take their shirt off give them an hour and then put their shirt back on. They have great little base tans and so far have not had a sunburn this year. Mind you, they are about a skin type 2 -3, and they look so cute. Years before I would slather them up in that crap and they would stay pasty year round or would burn if I forgot to put it on soon enough. So, my point, I have been moderately tanning my children outdoors and they look great.

Re: Kids in the sun

Aren't kids supposed to be kept out of the sun until they are 18?

Get those little b*stards out of the sun!! They will die a horrible death. The sun is out to get us. The devil put it in the sky to kill us.

Re: Kids in the sun

I let my daughter outside without sunscreen for short periods of time. I worry more about sunscreen then about sun exposure. I do use it if we are outside an extended period of time.

I read the studies about an increase in skin cancer in people in there 20s and I have to think there's more of a connection to sunscreen then sun exposure.

Dropping off my daughter at school I always smelled sunscreen on some of the kids. People go overboard. Who needs sunscreen for 5 minutes before school, the 10 minute recess and the 20 minute lunch (when the sunscreen probably wasn't working anymore anyway). Little kids shouldn't be so exposed to so many chemicals.

Re: Kids in the sun

okay... I too FEAR sunscreen! Every year on track and field day I do as the school letter to us says and put SUNSCREEN 50+ on the kids. Every year they BURN.

So, this year I didn't put the sunscreen on and guess what NO FRIGGIN BURN (all 3 kids). I want my money back!!! Just kidding!

SO, I do legitimitely feel that the sunscreen 50+ is more evil than the "devil's sun". (**** him). For the end of the year pool party I did use sunscreen because she was going to be in the pool all day... but I only used spf15 and like my mom said, she had built up a base tan in the salon, and no burn!

At the store, looking to buy a sunscreen, I really had to search the display for a bottle that was UNDER SPF 50. At one point, Paisley pointed to a bottle and said "look, hawaiin tropic has a baby sunblock 50" and I slapped her silly and said "look ******, we don't buy hawaiin tropic"... and then I had to apologize for getting carried away (again)... and explained to her that Hawaiin Tropic was a company run by the Devil and that their sunblock was really babies blood. she understands now.

THANKS FOR LETTING ME SHARE!
Carol
