Re: Burned hand

OOPS, guess you learn 2 lessons tonight, huh? Use pot holders and DO NOT use cold water/ice to treat a burn.

Labs are THE DOGS. I got 4 laying with me now. Bless their little hearts. Bet noone sneaks up on me :)

Re: Burned hand

I am badly behind the times . . . I've got to quit opening a dozen windows at one time. I have always been told to run under cold water and/or apply ice; why would you not? ('course I was also told by another to apply butter--NOT even one time!)

I've got a "Hoover" too. (Rat terrier / Jack Russell mix)

Re: Burned hand

To treat a minor burn, run cool water over the area of the burn or soak it in a cool water bath (not ice water). Keep the area submerged for at least 5 minutes.

After flushing or soaking for several minutes, cover the burn with a sterile bandage or a clean cloth. Over the counter pain medications, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, may be used to help relieve the pain. Minor burns will usually heal without further treatment.

Re: Burned hand

Cold water and butter will intensify the burn, making it go deeper in the skin.

What is the Smart Tan cure for a bad sunburn?
Run a tub/bath of cool NOT cold water. Preferably about room temp, I think. Sit/soak for a bit then dry. Repeat as needed.

I need to quit. Before I give bad information.

Good night

Re: Burned hand

On ALL burns:
  • DO NOT use lotions, ointments and creams
  • DO NOT use adhesive dressings
  • DO NOT break blisters
Start cooling the burn immediately under running water for at least 10 minutes

Continue to pour copious amounts of cold water over the burn for at least ten minutes or until the pain is relieved.

For minor burns, hold the affected area under cold water for at least 10 minutes or until the pain subsides. Remove jewellery etc. and cover the burn as detailed above.
If a minor burn is larger than a postage stamp it requires medical attention. All deep burns of any size require urgent hospital treatment.
