My wife wakes up this morning and lets the dogs out to do their duties like we do every day
I'm still upstairs Being a lazy *** (been a long week) all of a sudden I hear frantic screaming from downstairs, I run down to find my wife at the door freaking out because now the dogs are on the breezeway along with a skunk attacking the little dog the skunk has now sprayed and the whole inside of the house smells along with everything we own
Finally get the skunk scared off the breezeway and the dogs in the house
Luckily the dogs are up on there shots but of course she brings the dogs to the vet to be checked over and the vet elected to give the dogs a rabies shot as a precaution because they are not due for their shots yet
I send my son out the front door with the rifle to go shoot the skunk so Fish and game can pick the thing up and test it for rabies.


Now Elizabeth is on the way to the clinic because she did pick up the little dog to make sure she wasn't seriously injured before she protected her hands
They say they want to start a series of rabies shots which I understand can be very painful

Had to cancel my day to come run the salon and every customer in the door so far has commented that I smell like a skunk.
Have the candles burning now to hopefully cover the skunk smell some!

WOW what a terrible morning!! You can get rabies from touching a animal?!
Uk and the skunk smell is had to get out never experienced but I heard you have to burn your clothes.....Get someone to carpet clean immediately if you can or have carpet.....

At my Moms (shes had 3 acres) there are racoons and armadillos that at night come up and sit on the back porch with her cats, never bother them it bizarre to see.....

me to Gidget.......I have been around an animal with rabies before and as long as they hadn't bite or scratched me i was fine....(I pick ups strays and take them to a pet rescue place) All the vet asked is have you been bite or scratched..... if she just held the small dog in her hands I don't get it....

Ekkk Probably want to take a shower as your stuck sitting there...... Odd remedies eh? hmmm I know its old fashioned but my Nana would say stick a spoonful of bleach in the bath with you and that will kill the everything might work on the smell.....She always made us do that if we had poision oak or something like that...after we bathe in it we would then take a normal shower it worked.....still alive to talk about it.....won't do wonders for the tan though LOL

So. You or your dog or even a part of your house has been sprayed by a skunk, and now you want to get rid of the smell.

These tactics WILL NOT work very well:

• Bath in tomato juice
• Spray with lemon or orange citrus
• Masking agents like perfume or Fabreze

How do you eliminate the odor once you have been sprayed by a skunk? Well first of all, you or your dog should have known the warning signs ahead of time. A skunk will give many clear signals before it sprays. If threatened, it will stamp its front feet, arch its back, and shuffle away. If you don't leave right away, it will turn its posterior toward you, raise the tail, and release the smelly musk, a sulfur-alcohol compound, from special glands near the anus. This spray not only stinks, but burns and can cause temporary blindness if it is sprayed directly into the eyes. Since you didn't take heed and got sprayed, here is how to get rid of the smell:

Here is the secret recipe that WORKS. Mix the following:

• 1 quart 3 percent hydrogen peroxide
• 1/4 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
• 1 teaspoon liquid soap or dish detergent
• Mix these together and bathe ("shampoo" in or rub down) the spray victim thoroughly.
• Be sure to use this mixture immediately after it is created, as it is unstable.
• Rinse with tap water afterward, and repeat if necessary.
• For spray in the eyes, flush with water as soon as possible.
