Rep Power: 0 | Re: hex II F74 LAMPS? The slanderous remarks were deleted from this post. We can either chalk it up as misunderstanding or keep at it. Either way I don't care. I'm a ball buster and too bad if you don't like it. I'm not offended in the least. You and I both know what the post said. I'm glad you came to your senses. I didn't intend it to become a ***** slap session, truce? |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: hex II F74 LAMPS? Here's the reason I laughed. ITE decided to try to capture the market on their replacement lamps. They went to F-74 with a twist. They mounted the lampholders at 12 and 6 o'clock instead or the traditional 9 and 3 o'clock. Using standard reflector lamps in these units positioned them at 90° out of wack so the light would point out one side and not toward you. Regular F-74 lamps could not be used but the "dumb lamps" sucked. Everyone with this was stuck. I know they went back to F-73 with standard mounting position. If you are willing to do a little drilling and screwing you could modify the unit and shorten the distance between the lampholders to accept F-73 and if your lampholders are oriented as I described above you could drill out the rivets and turn them 90° and re-rivet or sheet metal screw them back in place. Electrically this is identical and would use 160W F-73. It would be a little time consuming but not real difficult. You would have a much wider variety of lamps to use in the F-73 configuration as they are more popular. F-71 still has the most choices but at least you wont be stuck with one or two choices of lamps. Now you know why you got the unit at such a good price. |

Rep Power: 46 | Re: hex II F74 LAMPS? thanks for that..its actually exactly what i was planing on doing. i figure a 1/2 inch shorter each way should do the trick....dont worry everyone im very mechanicaly inclined. LOL i even have a F73 test lamp. the machine is apart in storage right now which will make it even easier. i got it from a hair salon that went under! when i was contacted about the deal i was aware its not a top notch unit and was leary about the not smart lamps. so i offered the guy $800 and he bit. what i didnt realize (after i got it) was they now have F74 lamps with basically no choices. but for $800 bucks i feel its a deal....especially when ill be getting $10 a visit... buy the way you lost me with the 9 and 3 oclock stuff.....12 and 6 i can picture but not the 9-3.....plus im not looking at the unit...

Rep Power: 0 | Re: hex II F74 LAMPS? Some of the F-74 units were like this. A Hex exclusive. If so, you will need to rotate the lampholders to look like the standard layout so any reflector lamp can be used. You probably only need to move one of the lampholder box ends to shorten the distance. Also, the cages will probably need a little trimming. |

Rep Power: 46 | Re: hex II F74 LAMPS? i see...and these things just spin! ill just move up the bottom then and trim the bottom of the cages.. why would hex want you to only use there lamps and then make crappy lamps! it makes no sense..their lamps are the main reason so many dislike the units..

Rep Power: 0 | Re: hex II F74 LAMPS? The lampholders are riveted in. Drill out the rivets and turn them then use new rivets or small sheet metal screws to hold them in place. You only need to do this if your booth has the "Hex" setup as I have shown above. This was done to lock in lamp sales. If your unit has the standard RDC setup, you will not have to rotate the lampholders, just move thew mounting boxes closer together to run F-73 length. Hex has since gone back to F-73 with standard orientation. |
