There is one Freeway overpass near Ft. Lewis where parents & friends of the military meet and flag wave to support our troups well recieved from the honking from below, a lesson not lost by many of them when they returned from Viet Nam.

I did have the honor of being with my son on board (Tiger Cruise) the aircraft carrier he was deployed on when he returned from a War Deployment. As we arrived in San Diego, we were met by several fire boast, water cannons blazing red, white and blue colored water, many private boast waving banners and flags, and a huge crowd of people on the docks waiving their banners and flags. Over the ships loud speakers played the R&B song, America. The entire flight deck was circled by some of the ships crew, standing at attention in their white uniforms. The first crewmen off the ship were those sailors who's wives gave birth while they were deployed. Each sailor walk down the gangway with a single red rose to give to his wife and new baby. It was emotional. I joined my son when his ship was docked at Pearl Harbor for the 7 day cruise back. As we were about to "set sail", the Captain ordered all non essential hands on deck including us civilians. We stood at attention (sailors saluting) while facing the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial. And we stayed there until we cleared the memorial, about 20 minutes later. Quiet contemplation and recognition to those who gave their lives. |

To me every military person is a star, we have 50 stars on our flag and I rather admire those who defend us, than someone who defends thier 3+million dollar contract.
