How WE determine Skin Types In order to assist us in setting up a proper UV exposure schedules for clients we use a Skin Type Analysis that has been developed by doctors and provided by Smart Tan. All clients are required to complete this FREE analysis.By simply answering eight (8) short questions and adding up the numbers corresponding to the answers a clients skin type is revealed. When recording the skin types we have taken an extra step and divided the skin types further. A result of 22 would put the client in the Type 3 category according to the analysis sheet. For our purposes we record this as a 3- because it falls at the bottom of the scale. A total of say 37 is also a Type 3 but because it is above the median number of 32 we record it as a 3+. 0-7 Skin type 1 Very sensitive, advise not to tan 8-11 Type 2- 12-16 Type 2 17-21 Type 2+ 22-28 Type 3- 29-35 Type 3 36-42 Type 3+ 43-49 Type 4- 50-61 Type 4 62-68 Type 4+ 69-73 Type 5- 74-80 Type 5 81-84 Type 5+ Now that you have determined the skin type you can compare it to the chart for determing exposure times. Clients who have not been tanning indoors for 6 or more weeks should be encouraged to reduce their times from what they may have been doing prior to the break in tanning. |
