Re: I've just gotta know...

So, you've got some random tanner who has no clue what's going on. He reads a sarcastic comment about how you should just go ahead and tan outdoors using paradigm on your face, fries himself beyond recognition, tells everyone he read the advice on a tanning salon owner site, rumors .... I remember this thread you are talking about - - - - and agree.....

Really - when making over the top posts - perhaps we should put a warning like Bam or Jacka$$ does..... I got pissedoff by that thread as well....

And others........

It's one thing to have given advice that was sh*itty cuz you don't know any better.... and another to post crap in fun ~ that others may not know is FOR FUN....

Anyways ~ I'm glad we had this little talk..... :)

I need to find out where the **** my electrician is!!!! (Been saving my nasties for him Ramcat - - - I've been up since 6am for an 8 am visit..... it's past noon here and I'm ready to peel his eyelids off!!!!)

Okay, prove it. Show me your resources. I'll show you mine. I'm more than willing to debate the topic (once again) with you. Assuming, of course, that you'll accept both sides of the debate (tanning industry vs. medical) and use knowledge from both to see the valid points regarding the issues at hand.

Re: I've just gotta know...

Your site is made up of tanners. They ask each other stupid questions and get the worst advice from other tanners. If they are intelligent at all, they will go to their local salon and get the proper advice (or so we hope).

We attempt to presume that the majority of salon owners have been certified and have a minimal understanding of the tanning process and of the lotions that they sell. We also presume that those same salon owners are doing their best to teach their customers the correct methods of tanning and the proper use of the lotions and not just selling them an over-priced tingle and baking them for 20 minutes on their first visit.

If you want to worry about your tanners then teach them properly, in your salon. Don't come here with the notion that you have all the answers and the rest of us are ignorant. You want to see ignorant, go back to your precious site.

Re: I've just gotta know...

This is for the salon owners. Take a tour on ggogle or yahoo ~key word~tanning and read the things the young people hafe to say about tanning. my fav is " oh my god i am not going to catch cancer" or" i don't want to be orange" and other various childhood remarks. That's where the salon owner should go to educate the mass's if so desired. I was so shocked by what I read. Sheila would be very good over on one of there boards.

As I said, you should really check out the site you're trashing. It is obvious that you either a) haven't been there in years (or at all) or b) don't follow smart-tan practices yourself. So, I do assume you speak from ignorance about the subject at hand (IamTan, that is). Ignorance is forgivable. Stupidity is not.

However, to presume that all salon owners have training is just mind-boggling to me. Of the 5 salons I have been to in the past 3 years, only two have had staff with any knowledge. Many didn't even know what DHA is or what type of beds they have or lamps they use. It's simply fact that not all salons are run by knowledgeable people. And to assume that tanners can find the knowledge they are seeking in the salon where they tan is also wrong. Tell you what - PM me and I'll prove it. I'll give you the number one of the salons I mentioned, and you can call and quiz the girl at the front desk. You'll see exactly what I mean. If a tanner is here looking for answers, he/she obviously isn't getting them in the salon - which means they most likely are not tanning at a reputable salon, but don't know the difference.

Re: I've just gotta know...

Ramcat ---- I went to Vegas back in 2002..... spent alot of time with strangers by the pool - hearing their horror stories of where they tan...

We cannot presume anything about the quality and intelligence of the places where people must go to get a tan.

Being certified is the biggest joke since the one about the Rabbi, the Priest and the Atheist.... this does not ensure quality of service, knowlege of UV or skin care.

I think it's great that the consumers have a site they can go to SHARE their opinions..... like this one and others ~ not all advice is good.... but I often will help clients of tanning via pm and send them to other sites for them to learn.....

Rose ~ I have to say, that the very implication that Medical Opinion makes something right is not my personal belief.

I was sent to a tanning salon by a doctor who was not a dye in the wool Anti-Tan zealot - - - - I have had many in the medical profession tan at my salon (including 2 oncologists)..... my worst clients were RNs, in as far as demanding to burn because they are and KNOW their skin and refusing to wear eye protection ----- like any profession - - - there are good and bad practicioners....

Reality is ~ that Western Medicine (especially Dermatology) is still rather 'black magic' .... guess work ~ trial and error. There are too many variables to be able to lock down one Right or Wrong way to do things....

It is good to be able to research and cite others opinions - - - - but remember ~ we do not live our lives on the words can be, may be, may lead to, buy my drugs cuz I need the money.....

There are some very savvy clients out there..... just like there are very savvy salon operators.....

Engfant would not win 'Best Bedside Manner' if he were a Brain Surgeon.... but in his geographical location ~ no one gives a shi*t about bedside manners ~ they want a f*ing tan! :)
