When I got married my husband and I both agreed that we would get a pre nup. Everyone thought we were crazy but I think we were smart. Both of us had lots of assests with little debt before we got married and although we NEVER plan to or want to get divorced who knows what may happen further down the road. A women scorned can be very evil, and I am sure that I am not above this. A prenup saves alot of B.S. Basically what it states is he keeps what he had before the marriage and I keep what I have before the marriage. What we purchase during the marriage is split in half. But if I decide to chain out my salon or get a couple more places as long as it falls under my oringinal salon name, I am safe. Anyone else out there have a prenup??

Going through it now.........it SUCKS. It's really hard to put on a smile all day and run your salon when you know everything in your personal life is messed up. No prenup here....luckily my soon-to-be-X has no interest in the Business.

Not trying to be a smart *** but my wife and I took out a pre nup 34 years ago. It was called our wedding vows. It hasn't been an easy ride all the time but it really does take two to make it work... and two to make it fail. I'm always sad to hear when it fails for some. Life, is too short for that much unhappiness.

21 Year anniversary this week and still somewhat happy. No pre-nup, didn't have anything when we got married. Now we have lots! ( to split up) LOL

I am so sorry anyone has to go through a divorce. Not only emotionally are you devistated. But throw in fighting for the house, car, credit card bills, debt and businesses. I think anyone who can go through this without having a nervous break down is a very strong person. I feel for you and I am sorry you are dealing with this. Just remember what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Missy hot, is your salon Incorporated? Sometimes when you are incorporated this can save you during the divorce as oppose to having sole proprietorship. I highly recommend Corporations, for this reason just make yourself President, Secretary, etc. If your husband doesn't own any shares, he can't touch it. Good way to protect your business!! I guess it probally depends on your state but it's something for you to look into. Take Care

I totaly understand what you are saying, BUT Noone goes into a marriage thinking they are going to get a divorce. People change. I am a true believer you either grow together or grow apart. Seems to be no middle ground on this. I had a commentment phobia before I got married. I saw personally alot of pain and hardship that a divorce can put a couple through. I was with my husband for 8, yes EIGHT years before we got married. I just thought why ruin this great relationship with marriage? It made me scared to think everything that I worked so hard for could be ran through the ringer, if it didn't work out. But now that I am getting older and want children I decided that it was time to marry my true love, a prenup solved all my commitment issues and we are so happy that we did it.

We never heard about pre nups 34 years ago. I'm sure they existed, just never heard about it back then. Even if we did know about it, we'd never consider that option. I guess things have changed over the years and it might be the right thing for some to do now.
