My Gosh, don't you just love politics. The angry and fury and debates go on and on... I blame the local goverment from the mayor up to the govenor. Because people are free in this county the folks of new orleans decided to stay. If I Knew that a cat 5 was headed my way 5 days in advance I would have Hoofed it out at the nearest exit. We cannot blame anyone for what has happenned. We have not seen first hand how really really bad it is there and what the holdup was getting drops in immediately. we should deal with what is at hand and pray for the lost souls.

Don't blame the president...

In case you aren't familiar with how our government is SUPPOSED to work: The chain of responsiblity for the protection of the citizens in New Orleans is:
1. The Mayor
2. The New Orleans director of Homeland Security (a political appointee of the Governor who reports to the Governor)
3. The Governor
4. The Head of Homeland Security
5. The President
What did each do?
1. The mayor, with 5 days advance, waited until 2 days before he announced a mandatory evacuation (at the behest of the President). The he failed to provide transportation for those without transport even though he had hundreds of buses at his disposal.
2. The New Orleans director of Homeland Security failed to have any plan for a contingency that has been talked about for 50 years. Then he blames the Feds for not doing what he should have done. (So much for political appointees)
3. The Governor, despite a declaration of disaster by the President 2 DAYS BEFORE the storm hit, failed to take advantage of the offer of Federal troops and aid. Until 2 DAYS AFTER the storm hit.
4. The Director of Homeland Security positioned assets in the area to be ready when the Governor called for them
5. The President urged a mandatory evacuation, and even declared a disaster State of Emergency, freeing up millions of dollars of federal assistance, should the Governor decide to use it.
Oh and by the way, the levees that broke were the responsibility of the local landowners and the local levee board to maintain, NOT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
The disaster in New Orleans is what you get after decades of corrupt (democrat) government going all the way back to Huey Long.
Funds for disaster protection and relief have been flowing into this city for decades, and where has it gone, but into the pockets of the politicos and their friends.
Decades of socialist government in New Orleans has sapped all self reliance from the community, and made them dependent upon government for every little thing.
Political correctness and a lack of will to fight crime have created the single most corrupt police force in the country, and has permitted gang violence to flourish.
The sad thing is that there are many poor folks who have suffered and died needlessly because those that they voted into office failed them.

and a big fat white rich non-christian a** at that. I know, I know. Please, someone contribute something other than," He's a poopy head and I pray for his Bush hating soul, wah, wah, wah."
Moore is not the issue. I posted this with the knowledge that "certain" people would chime in and be angry about it but in my heart of hearts I was hoping for more intelligent input than the name calling that is prevelant here so far. I'll keep my fingers (and not my bumper sticker) crossed, though.
As a side note, good post Tanzenite. That was very well said. (standing ovation) Good research too.

One thing I like about people like Micheal Moore and Bill Mahr is they sometimes ask questions that I feel the reporters should be asking. Usually the reporters are so one sided and skate around issues, that sometimes the pot needs to be stirred. I do not necessarily agree with some of micheal Moore's antics, however I do agree that he brings a different opinion for others to consider and maybe accept all/part/ or none of it. That is the beauty of america, we decide for ourselves. Everyone is entitled to an opinion rather you believe it to be fair, honest, or right, but just because others have different opinions does not mean that they need to be bagard (spelling) or name called. Ok so now that I have had my Jerry Springer FINAL THOUGHT, I am on my way home.

luv, where in Florida are you?

Mr. Duck,
I believe that a debate is an argument. I believe an argument is a logical search for the truth. There are many rhetorical devices one can use to logically put forth one’s proposition or opposition. Whose truth do we believe? Whose argument or assumption is “true”? Is it a truth or personal charisma that wins a debate?

Which party will influence a majority of listeners and will anyone really change their opinion after all the premises and oppositions are presented? I agree that Mr. Moore is a self serving toady attention seeker who has nothing of any substantial value to contribute to society.

In my opinion this natural disaster has been politicized and depersonalized. We as a country are more interested in criticizing than lending a hand. To me it is an effect of the diversification of America that has coagulated the melting pot. We have no standard national language, no traditional American culture. Some say that by embracing diversity we homogenize and unify our country.

Diversity is the opposite of unity. How can embracing our differences bring us closer together? Isn’t it racist to say one is an African American or Irish American or Italian American? Why not call oneself an American of African descent or American of Irish descent or just plain proud to be an American?

What does this have to do with the disaster on the Gulf Coast? People like Mr. Moore and others have missed the chance to bring the country together instead they are creating a discord with the name racism. Storms don’t discern between color, or socioeconomic status, people do. I have lived through many hurricanes, three passed over my house in a six week period last year. We in Florida have seen devastation first hand. We have survived and gone forward.

What other natural disaster has created such discord? The earthquakes of 1994, Jan 17th in California, 57 dead; more than 9,000 injured; about $40 billion in property damage. The nation came together. I can’t think of a disaster in my lifetime that divided the country, yet this one has. This event is just an excuse for our diverse country to voice its frustration with its inability or unwillingness to unite as a nation.

It is time for Americans to return to being Americans. It is time for our country to stand united not fragmented and shattered by partisan politics and provocateurs like Mr. Moore who foment discord for fun and profit. To quote Anton de Saint Exupery, “A marriage (substitute union) is two people (substitute nation) looking in the same direction together not looking at each other.”

What he said.^^ And out of curiosity, when are you guys going to get around to blaming the president for everything else that's effed up in the world. Surely it must be his personal fault for everything that's wrong, not fixed, will never be fixed, and the unfixable. I'm personally very upset with the Pope for allowing his priests to sexually molest children, cover up the crimes, and then allow his houses of "God" to file for bankruptcy. Wait, isn't John Kerry catholic? It's his fault too. Speaking of Kerry, I'm extremely angry with this country for giving this traitor 2 seconds of air time to run for the highest leadership position of this country. I can guarantee you that I personally had nothing to do with supporting his candidacy, so it's all your alls fault. I'm also ticked off that people lost their entire lives over the greed of some key people at Enron, and nobody died for it. I think I'll blame every greedy accounting firm, and the greedy courts for that one. I am completely appalled with the 2/3 of the New Orleans police officers that deserted before, during, and after one of the most horrific crisis that any city in this nation ever faced. It's the mayor's fault. Kickbacks are great, but when it comes down to doing the job, what a loser the he turned out to be. I can't blame him for the hurricane, that was intelligent design; but everything else is his fault. Shame on all of us.
