I hear there are some freezing people at the north pole. Maybe Bush should start throwing money their way? Doesn't matter what the money goes to (it gets so thinned out everytime it gets transfered that by the time it reaches it's ORIGINAL destination it's close to ZERO) as long as the USA falls under "benevolence, grace, goodwill, charity and self-interest".
Forget that the US economy is JUNK. Forget other countries have NO FAITH in the US dollar. FORGET that we are at WAR. As long as we throw money as some NONSENSE and make sure BASEBALL PLAYERS aren't on growth hormones we are good people. ****** we LOVE to lie to ourselves don't we. |

Ok Sweda. I've thought about it and I guess you are right. Although I do still think it is very important for the US to help others outside the borders, I'm also 100% behind helping people here. So I would support a national health care if it didn't radically increase taxes (and it probably wouldn't have to if they cut out all the fat that politicians have stuffed in their with favors for their backers and entitlements for freeloaders) and if the tax code were changed so that the "rich" paid the same exact percentage of income tax as the "poor" (not the Marxist system currently in place).
Not to repeat the whole thing again, but I think what struck me most about all this (and people like Engfant, whether he is arguing "Republican" or "Democrat") is that they latch onto every possible negative action and put a negative spin on everything they can. Like Rush Limbaugh during the Clinton administration and the iditots on "Air America" now, they also get into endless criticizing and doomsaying until their party gets control back and then turn around and defend everything their party does in power (even when there isn't that big of a difference). That's D-U-M-M. I don't know if Bush really is dumb or not. I've never met him and really wouldn't feel comfortable making that call based on TV, newspapers and radio. I do know he's smart enough to surround himself with the right people to become the president (for whatever that's worth). And I know he's not as dumb as the person who latches onto a political party and then attacks the actions of an opposing party regardless of whether he's really thought out what he is saying. A Democrat, for example, who will overlook the horrendous actions of a Waco because they were done by members of his own party is dumb. The same can be said for Repulican-led atrocities. I think the Dems and the Republicans are about evenly corrupt as political bodies and I just agree with more of the stated policies of the Republicans so I vote that way. If the Dems changed their policies (e.g., dropping nutty ideas like "affirmative action"), I might swing over that way. And in the end, I guess the Republicans actually were "smarter" and the Democrats "dumber" because they were able to get more votes -- and you can't say it was because so many of the voters are "dumb" because even if that's true, the Republicans were "smart" enough to exploit that "dumbness" and the Democrats were actually not "smart" enough to recognize and/or capitalize on it. So who is really "dumberer"? People won't get smarter, but maybe if the Democrats, as a political body, get smarter, they'll win the next election! That's American democracy, right? Everybody loves it when it goes their way, but some spew bile and hated about others when they lose. |

I'm all for national health care, but at the same time these no good couch potatoe welfare system abusers should be cut off. Welfare is nothing now like what it was originally meant to be. I see able bodied people all the time who don't work, and fill their grocery carts with stuff that I can't afford, and I could almost guarantee that the majority of them refuse to hold down a job. After all, why should they? My daughter has serious female health problems. She works 2 jobs (one full time, the other part time, and the rest of the time she helps me at the salon when I am in a bind.) and has no health insurance. We figured how much it would cost her to get some kind of insurance through her full time job and it's ridiculous! She'd be working ONLY to pay for her health insurance.
I never have approved of welfare, except in cases where the person is physically not able to provide for themselves, or for those who ARE working their butts off and can't get the medical attention needed. We did get desperate enough to call human services to see if there was any type of temporary assistance she could get. The first thing they asked was how many children she had. When I told them "none", their response was, "well she's required to have children before we can be of any assistance". It's a crying shame when you see these young girls running around with a baby on each hip and one in tow. It's almost as though the state encourages girls to go out and get pregant just so they don't have to work, can have access to great health care, and can eat like royalty while my daughter is struggling to stay on her feet literally! My husband and I try to help her out when we can, but our pockets are only so deep, and it kills me to know that her medical problems cannot be tended to the way they should be because someone who doesn't deserve it is milking the system. |
