Rep Power: 26 | Man Ticketed For Selling Girl Scout Cookies With Daughter NEW YORK -- A Long Island man was ticketed in Brooklyn for selling Girl Scout cookies with his 13-year-old daughter. Hoi Louis was in Williamsburg delivering the cookies with his daughter over the weekend. Louis said it was his old neighborhood, before he moved to Bethpage, and he and his daughter have been selling Girl Scout cookies there since his daughter was in first grade. At 4:50 p.m. Saturday a police captain and a uniformed officer pulled up to their van as they were unloading cookies. Louis said the captain from the 94th Precinct ticketed him for selling cookies without a license. The NYPD said the man and his daughter were not delivering the cookies, but instead were selling the cookies from a table they had set up on the street. The child's grandmother, who was in the van, said her granddaughter was frightened by the police and the girl's father was flabbergasted. --- Perhaps the cops should have Tasered the guy? |

Rep Power: 29 | That's nothing. Cry baby stuff. They SHOULD have a license or start going door to door like the rest of em. In the next town over (of me) if you have a YARD SALE with OVER 25 items you SHOULD have a license and you SHOULD be paying taxes on the sales. If you have a lemonade stand, you SHOULD have a license. SHOULD is the key word. This is NEW YORK people AND we are in the middle of a war (remember that????) You can't be playing games in "high risk" parts of the country. |

Rep Power: 21 | So none of you would mind, if possible, that someone would set up on the corner and starting tanning your clients? There are vendors and retail people who pay rent and have to pay licensing to sell their product, this guy has been doing this for years and his daughter always has the highest sales, if she wants to truly be a winner let her go door to door, as mentioned earlier, like the rest of them! |

Rep Power: 29 | Once again. People are ONLY reading and ASSUMING what they want. People read the article and see GIRLSCOUT, GRANDPARENTS, CONFUSED FATHER and think that NEW YORK has NOTHING better to do then pick on these POOR DEFENSELESS PEOPLE. I see it as GROWN ADULTS THAT SHOULD KNOW BETTER takeing advantage of the situation and SMEARING that it's for "poor little cindy's girl scout crew". Sorry, they are ADULTS and should know better. The real problem that I have is they have been GETTING AWAY WITH THIS FOR YEARS. They should be charged for past violations AND made to pay late fees. I have to when I f up and DON'T COMPLAIN WHEN IT'S MY IGNORANCE THAT CAUSED IT. Slow news day so they try to stir it up with a "POOR ME" story. Makes my BS meter go wacky wacky and keeps reminding me to STAY AWAY FROM FAKE REALITY THAT IS THE NEWS. |

Rep Power: 26 | Police Dish Summons to Girl Scout Cookie Father NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York police have ticketed a man they say set up a table on a Brooklyn sidewalk to sell Girl Scout cookies without a license. But the suspect's 13-year-old daughter disputes the account and says her father was only helping her deliver pre-ordered cookies in the neighborhood. Officers issued a summons for unlicensed vending to Hoi "Howard" Louis over the weekend. "An adult 55-year-old male who had set up a table along a busy stretch was given a summons," Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne said on Wednesday. "No Girl Scouts were seen by officers at the time the summons was issued." But Grace Marie Louis said she was there and that her father was preparing the orders when police pulled up in a car. Donna Ceravolo, director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County, told Reuters that Grace Marie and her father were delivering pre-ordered cookies. "I make no bones about the Girl Scout cookie program," said Ceravolo. "It would not be nearly as successful without the support of parents. I don't apologize for it." The girl, who has sold about 600 boxes of cookies this year, is helping her troop save up for a trip to Hawaii or Europe. Ceravolo said the Girl Scouts would provide counsel in court if needed. The fine, if any, will be determined by a judge. Source |

Rep Power: 0 | Wait a second. Mass media news is a bunch of baloney for sure, and I reluctantly agree about the license, if that one man has been doing it for years (even though it's pretty hard-nosed to be cracking down on the girl scouts). But why the heck do we need our already bloated government to get so involved in telling us how to live our lives that they are going to monitor the yard sales of our already over-taxed citizens? What good does that serve? |
