yes!! this happened last year, the acrylic fell out of a montego bay that we have, we heard a whomp and the woman came out looking real frazzled, we asked are you okay? she said i had to crawl out from under that glass in there!! then she started laughing, it was quite funny, nobody was hurt and the acrylic withstood the incident.

okay thank god this was at my home tanning bed..lol. I had just drove 3 hours to purchase my new tanning bed. I was so excited to have one at home. To make a long story short....I got in and was all relaxed...smelled smoke...opened my eyes and the tanning bed was on fire at the end where my head was! I jumped out screaming ..thank god i wasnt hurt at all...but i went screaming for my husband...he was outside...the worst of all i ran outside streak naked! screaming for him that the tanning bed was on fire!
I took the tanning bed back and they gave me a new one that was even much better in price.

To those of you asking what to look for when you get into a tanning bed.....

Any crack in the acrylic (what you lay on), no matter how small, is not somthing you want to lay on. It may be a tiny crack right now, but once the acrylic heats up, and body weight/pressure is applied, it could get bigger, and that is what causes the pinching and cracking people are posting about.

As far as the top acrylics falling out....thank goodness it's never happened here, but for those of you that read that and may be scared to tan now....don't worry...it's a very rare happening, I'm sure...and if it's not, then I would certainly look a little more in depth at the facility it happens at. Like people have mentioned...there's screws, click strips, etc holding these things in place, so unless they're not properly maintained, they really should never fall out.

A few years ago I was tanning at a salon in Tallahassee....Got into one of the superbeds that I normally tanned in and about halfway through the session, I HEARD a crack and started to feel it spreading down my back. Needless to say, I got out of that bed ASAP, totally freaked out! When I told the employees up front they told me they were so sorry and would give me a month of free tans. They never did, and I never went back. Ever since that incident I inspect each bed before I get in (and I stick mostly to stand-ups now, anyway)!!!
