Rep Power: 26 | TheDenverChannel.com Man Tasered By Police In Salad Bar Dispute Aurora Police Say Proper Procedures Followed At Chuck E. Cheese AURORA, Colo. -- Aurora police have reviewed a weekend incident in which a man accused of stealing salad from a Chuck E. Cheese salad bar was hit with a stun gun twice by officers and said that proper procedures were followed. The incident began at 4:05 p.m. Sunday when officers were called to the restaurant at 145005 East Exposition on a report of a larceny in progress. Police talked to the Chuck E. Cheese manager who told them that a customer had refused to show proof that he had paid for food. The manager said the man was seen "loading" his plate at the salad bar. The officers confronted Danon Gale, 29, who was at the restaurant with his children, aged 3 and 7. Patrons said the popular kids pizza parlor was packed with children and families at the time. According to police, Gale was asked to step outside to discuss the incident. "According to witnesses (Gale) refused to cooperate with police and a struggle ensued," said Larry Martinez, a police spokesman. He said that Gale became argumentative and shoved one of the officers, a fact disputed by another patron. "One of the officers kept poking the gentleman in the chest," Felicia Mayo told the Rocky Mountain News. She was there with her 7-year-old son. She told the newspaper that Gale told the officer "You don't have to do that." She said Gale never put his hands on the officer who was confronting him The argument escalated until Gale was shoved into the lap of Mayo's sister, who was sitting two booths away, holding a 10-month-old baby. That's when police pulled out a Taser stun gun to subdue him. "They beat this man in front of all these kids then Tased him in my sister's lap," Mayo told the newspaper. "They had no regard for the effect this would have on the kids. This is Chuck E. Cheese, you know." Gale's two children were "screaming and hollering and crying" as Gale was tasered two times with the stun gun. Police arrested Gale as his children and other customers watched. They took him outside, leaving his children inside the restaurant. Gale was arrested for investigation of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and trespassing. His two children were picked up by a relative. The manager of the restaurant declined comment and Gale said he couldn't talk about it, after hiring an attorney. An Aurora Police spokesman said that the sergeant on the scene wrote a report on the incident and forwarded it to his commander who determined that proper police procedures were followed relating to the use of the Taser. Source SURVEY Aurora police used a Taser on a man accused of pilfering salad at a Chuck E. Cheese. What's your opinion? The man overreacted and should have cooperated. Police overreacted and should not have used a Taser stun gun. Both sides overreacted. Police were justified in using the amount of force necessary. --- How long will it be until some tanning salon customer gets tasered for using Walmart tanning lotion? _________________ Jim "Entrepreneur Extraordinaire Since 1953" Read "Why Sunshine Is Good For You And Why Doctors Don't Want You To Know" [ This Message was edited by: Ezliving_Jim on 2005-03-02 13:36 ] |

Rep Power: 0 | Besides the he said she said, if thre cops asked for him to show proof he paid for his food and the guy didn't, then the cops had every right. Calls like this are so time consuming and annoying for cops, that i don't blame the cops at all for what they did, the manager should have gotten tasered as well. We all wonder why our justice system is so screwed. Its cause cops have to spend the 4 hours doing the frickin paper work on a poopy situation like this, and whats worse is that it should have been able to be resolved without the cops. Hot~ MHO |

Rep Power: 0 | I think it's great that the free loader got tasered in front of his kids for being an ***...you can be darned sure they won't try it when they grow up... And, Jim, shouldn't the question be, "how long has it been since you tasered someone for using Wal*Mart lotion"? Wait, you mean I'm the only one? |

Rep Power: 0 | I'd have to say Tasers are not for disorderly calls. I don't care if the cops have to spend a little more time with this guy. Your heart is a muscle that responds to electrical impulses from the brain. Hitting it with a few thousand is going to have consequences, whether immediate or not. There's no point in putting someone's life in jeopardy over salad. What happens if they missed or the electricity took, "the shortest path to ground", which happened to be through the 10 month old right next to him?? I've had fellow officers kicked out of the Air Force, lost their commission, and now have federal records because a passing cop thought, "he was being disorderly". One LT stepped outside to get a smoke. Officer accused him of being drunk, and the LT asked for a breathalizer, knowing he'd had no drinks (he was Des. Driver). Funny thing we learned about law that night. Cop is considered an expert and doesn't have to have proof. As a matter of fact, you can blow clean and they can still charge and convict for "under the influence"....request a breathalizer and get an added "disorderly" on it. My wife got pulled over on the Interstate 5 in San Diego. Not having a place to pull over due to no shoulder, she went to the next exit and turned into first pull-off. Cops approach with _guns drawn_. Not because stolen veh descript...just because, "She drove a little farther than they liked". Neighbors have a convicted felon tell the DEA they "have drugs and guns". DEA serves warrant when they know he's not home. Blow open his safe, leave contents strewn, front door wide open. If not for neighbor, the dog would have been sent to pound. Anything found? Nope. Note left as to why he'd come home to a breached front door, a useless $2k gunsafe (due to breached lock), etc? Nope. I could go on, but my point is high voltage is very similar to a lethal weapon and should be treated as such. I think they've gone to an "easy out". If the officer's life is in danger, but deadly force isn't necessary (e.g. guy with a steakknife, suspect on LSD but not armed)....sure use the taser. But salad?? Come on.... Sounds like a perfect time to use the billy stick. |

Rep Power: 107 | Tasers are used instead of deadly weapons, on those who are out of control and will not follow the commands of police officers. If you/they are not willing to follow the commands/requests of a police officer who is trying to protect his or her own safety as well as those that may be around. It's get shot or get shocked! |

Rep Power: 0 | Pull over a guy 8 foot tall 350-400 and your going to use a taser. If you follow the law your heart should right. I'm sick of criminals and fools. I could write a long thing on this. If you a cop and you get into a scuffle you have every right to pepper spray or taser someone. I have a lot of friends that are cops. |
