Rep Power: 25 | When I take my mom to these doctor's appointments and have to wait on her I take along some crocheting to work on, on really slow days in October I take some crocheting into the salon. All I ever hear is "my grandmother used to do that", isn't there anyone else under the age of 70 that knows how to crochet???? I've been making afghans and doilies for years....am I part of a dying breed of crafter???? |

Rep Power: 0 | I used to crochet little beads and goodies on socks but haven't done it for awhile. My grandma tried to teach me but I wouldn't sit still long enough. I wish now that I had learned more from her. She also did tatting. Anyone know what that is? Pam |

Rep Power: 25 | I know what tatting is but that is one thing that I have no clue how to do. Lately I've been crocheting those doily things that have your name in them and then you matte and frame them. |

Rep Power: 0 | Teresa, I am afraid crocheting is becoming a lost art. Not to many of our generation even know how. My grandmother did it all. crochet, knit, tatting and was an excellant seamstress. I never learned to crochet but did learn to knit. My grandmother taught me but would never teach me tatting. Said it was too tedious. I can't knit anymore because of my wrists. I used to make everything I wore back in the dark ages when I was in high school. (remember double knit?) Then I got married and had kids. I am doing well now to get a button repaired. I made halloween costumes this year and had to stop and think how to thread the machine! My grandmother would have flipped at that one! What I still love to do is cross stitch. It is relaxing and you can take it everywhere. So many ways to make great gifts. |

Rep Power: 0 | I get aggravated with needlework activities-they move too slow for me. Years ago I made all my clothes because I was a size that wasn't readily available in stores. I do love the feeling of creating and these days I paint when I get a chance (not often). It isn't conducive to carrying it with you, though. Maybe I should try cross stitch again..... Pam |
