A scam artist placed small ads in Australian newspapers and magazines advertising a series of erotic videos at very reasonable prices. Soon the orders began to pour in. In an average week, the scam artist was depositing $10,000 in checks from his buyers.
But none of the customers ever received any videos. Instead, they got an apologetic letter from the company saying that it was unable to fulfill their order."We are deeply sorry for any disappointment," the letter read, "and we are pleased to enclose a refund."
Printed in large black type across the top of the refund checks was the company name: "Bestiality and Other Perversions Video".
Few of the customers could bring themselves to present the check to their banks. The scam artist made off with over $200,000. |
