Rep Power: 0 | OK. I will admit to being a Halloween 'Scrooge' I have always thought dressing your kids up and letting them go around begging for candy was stupid. Having said that....I have always gone along, done the costumes, Trick-or-Treat, Halloween decorations and parties over the years. Even when I had to take candy to the hospitals where they were x-raying them for safety. On years when it snowed and it was too cold, we went to the malls and paraded from store to store. I have been doing this for 23 years and I can say my kids have always enjoyed Halloween. But now my hubby's ex has decided that she can't risk allowing the kids to have Halloween this year. (of course this is our turn to have them) She won't let them come over to our house because we have let her know that we feel that it is okay to go to houses in our neighborhoods. She is worried that the terrorists have accessed the candy manufacturers and poisoned the candy for this year. The kids are 10 and 8. I think there is a way to let them enjoy the holiday and still be cautious. I admit I can be very biased about her and I personally think she has gone over the edge, but am I overreacting? |

Rep Power: 24 | No Becky... you are not overreacting. I live in a very safe, cute town in New Jersey that the town's people are very close knit! I would never dream of keeping them home or scaring them. However my 11 y/o daughter was filled with fear by the woman she stayed with while I was in Nashville. She was like "Mom, is it going to be okay to go trick or treating? Jen's mom isn't going to let her go because of the terrorists!" It's like "hey thanks for taking care of my kid and for scaring the crap out of her." No, we're going with a Superman, Pikachu and Green Bay Packer cheerleader. So there! |

Rep Power: 0 | Thanks for the positive response Laurie. 90+% of the home in our neighborhood have kids. We know most of them! I think it would be safe. Kids grow up too fast as it is. I can't believe taking Halloween away from them is fair. What's next, Christmas? |

Rep Power: 0 | What am I thinking? This is the same woman who let them watch 'Jaws' when they were 4 & 6 just 3 days before we took them on a cruise. Lacey was 6 and was convinced we were going to be attacked. How can someone instill fear into their children? (taking a deep breath) (deep breath) |
