Hey Della!!! Where've you been, how's things been going? When I bought my last carton I decided I was going to quit... I enjoyed every last one of them down to the last cigarette. It took me over a week to smoke the last pack. A carton has never lasted so long in my life. I dragged it out and paced myself. I started sitting in non-smoking sections of restaurants and eventually when I would go anywhere (even overnight) I wouldn't bring them with me. Since I didn't smoke in my car or house (fussiest smoker you ever met) I made it a rule that I couldn't smoke in any vehicle or building. I refused to bum any from anyone if I was having a craving and didn't have mine with me... and on the other hand, didn't lend mine out either. I also warned those closest to me and asked for their support. People can be critical enough, I needed support, not criticism. I smoked my last one on Monday night at 11:30 and so far my worst day was Thursday... whenever I craved I told someone who I knew would be supportive. I craved from the moment I woke up until I went to bed that night. If you're gonna do it, decide ahead of time, do it at a low stress point in your life. I originally started again 4 years ago because my mother-in-law decided to take her life by sticking a gun in her mouth. Take your time and stretch it out as long as you can. Make sure you have support of non-smokers. Smokers can be disrespectful of your will to quit, smoking around you, offering a drag... etc. Avoid alcohol, I also cut back on my alcohol intake and that was a help too. You know we smokers are... have a drink, light a smoke. If you seriously do decide to do it... let us know please. It's been five days so far and I'm doing good.

Thanks Laurie. But I may never quit if I need to do it during an unstressful time.I have a fourteen year old son.I may never have an unstressful moment.Sounds like good advice. Are you worried about gaining weight? My husband smokes too.So it would be awfully hard unles he quits too.Thinking about getting patches.

I can relate there Allison... that's why I suggested a low stress time to quit. I will admit, I'm still craving and it's been a week now... but at least it's not constant anymore. And yes, Tanmoma... I am very concerned about gaining weight. So, I've altered my diet and stepped up my level of activity. I'm working out a little harder at the gym and laying off the alcohol almost completely. The last time I quit smoking, I also dropped 20 pounds.... so who knows??
