Rep Power: 0 | I apologize for my grammar, but I can suggest some of the best plastic surgery procedures that wrinkled up looking people that use sun beds too much might like !!! like I said ,I love having a tan ,but I still think a pasty white person is much more attractive than a wrinkle ,wrinkles are under no circumstances attractive . Well there are facelifts ,chemical peels, skin cancer removals, laser resurfacing, dermabrasion, and the new thing photoderm ,eyelid surgery, botox injections, and you can do all that to get rid of the wrinkles and then hit the bed again and start all over, what a fun life ,or you can just tan and be a wrinkle,I wonder why people are always attracted to younger people? is it because they have less WRINKLES ? or do they have darker tans ? hmmmmm,or you could use melanotan, and keep a dark tan and not get WRINKLES and look old at 40. |

Rep Power: 0 | I had the good fortune to briefly interview Dr. Barbara Gilchrest after her study on pTpT (thymidine dinucleotides) titled "DNA Photodamage Stimulates Melanogenesis and Other Photoprotective Responses" came out in the September 1999 Journal of Investigative Dermatology Symposium Proceedings. I also purchased and reviewed a copy of the entire study published in the proceedings. You can find the report on it in the March 2000 issue of Today's Image. Here are some things you ought to know about pTpT:--The experiments were done on genetically altered guinea pig skin. The topical application of pTpT (PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PTPT WAS NOT TAKEN IN PILL FORM IN DR. GILCHREST'S STUDY) did increase melanin and cause a tan, but the tan only remained while continuing to apply the pTpT. More than one application was done, and the color faded gradually once application stopped. (Essentially, the pTpT worked in the same way that UV radiation triggers a melanin tan, and it faded the same way.)--The pTpT-treated guinea pig skin was then subjected to a 6 MED dose of UVR. The treated skin was found to be "fully protective" against sunburn and cellular changes. At the time, Dr. Gilchrest felt that the results of the study do have practical applications, but she had no idea how far in the future that might be. "We are just now progressing from animal studies to, hopefully, human trials." Dr. Gilchrest also noted that she was in search of corporate sponsors and that the technology, as it was, was very expensive. There have been no further studies completed on human trials of pTpT to the best of my knowledge (Don Smith, correct me if I'm wrong; William, if you have access, please post the issue of the scientific journal the study came out in, (not a generic article about pTpT) and I'll check it out.) The FDA has not approved any tanning pills with pTpT, and it considers tanning pills with large amounts of canthaxanthin unsafe ("Imported tanning pills containing canthaxanthin are subject to automatic detention as products containing unsafe color additives."--http://vm.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/cos-tan2.html) Tanning pills with pTpT would alter the function of the body, and would need to be approved by the FDA as a drug before a sale.--Amy E.
