Talking pricing...again, sorry!

ok so i opened my salon about 11 months ago. I have taken out one bed (my lowest price bed) and added a stand up. My old prices were:

$10 and $15 for low pressure equip.
$25 and $35 for high pressure and spray.

I then have pkgs of 3,6,10, 15, and 20.
Accordingly i have eft prices starting 49, 79, 129, and 199.
I know that these seem high compared to alot of salons that are not in Northern Ca, but in my area it just isnt plausible to sell an unlimited package at 18.88 or 19.99.
Heres is my newest dilemma...

I just got rid of my "$10" bed, now my lowest price is $15. Getting rid of this bed also got rid of my lowest price EFT of $49, changing the lowest price eft to 79.00

I offer a 10% off promo once in awhile for eft, but thats all.

I have about 10 clients doing EFT now, of course i would like to get more. My salon is only 4 beds plus versa spa, so its not huge.

Since i am about to change my prices by getting rid of my "cheapest" bed, i think its a good time to re-arrange my pricing.

How do most of you determine EFT pricing? is it like a certain number multiplied by your walkin price? is it just whatever other salons are doing? (if thats the case, other salons dont offer EFT here.)

Also, i have an unlimited price that is almost double my EFT price, i never thought anyone would pay it, it was more for the "wow, your EFT price is so Low compared"....and so far, it had worked, that is the response we get.

anyways for now....any comments/input would be great!

Re: pricing...again, sorry!

IMO, your EFT is too high. You whould have a lot more clients doing EFT if it was more affordable.
I also would not think a salon of your size would be able to accomodate EFT traffic- if you did have more clients on it.

Each market is different though. You said that other salons in your area dont offer EFT- venture outside of the immediate area and check out how others have theirs set up. As always, put your own spin on it.

I Agree with DB

FEW THINGS ID CHANGE
get rid of the 15 and 20 visits (especially if they dont expire)
Lower the EFT OR Atleast bring in a low eft with a co-pay (per visit fee) option
with 4 beds id most likely have 2-3 levels then spray (i got 8 beds 4 levels)

WHAT DO U GOT FOR EQUIPMENT?

Re: pricing...again, sorry!

I now have a heartland 2m stand up, a tan america pacifica with upgraded 160w (all around the bed) with hp facials, a ultrabronz harmony (mattress HP) and a matrix L33. MY spray is VersaSpa.

Here is my explanation of why my prices are this way, Im going to show you for example my Pacifica pricing...

walk-in $15
3 $40
6 $76
10 $120
15 $157
20 $180

EFT $79
Monthly Unlimited $165

Now, i figured if someone is coming in to tan more then 6 times a month then they should use EFT, so i put my pricing right around that point for each bed. I charge the same price for my Stand up and my pacifica, and the same price for my Matrix and my Versa, so i would like to have 3 levels of EFT to accomodate all of my equipment.

For those of you that have EFT, how many times do your EFTs come in and tan? And for those of you with low prices and then a co-pay, is that even worth it? I would just think charging a low amount on my CC machine all day wouldnt even be worth it. What is the Co-pay for each of you? $5.00?

Re: pricing...again, sorry!

sorry but i think its a weird setup. also seems exspensive, but i dont kow your area

how long have u been open?
how many people a day do you tan? season
whats getting used the most?
what happens when u got a few people wanting the same bed? long waits i imagine

co pays should be priced like upgrades. incourage clients to purchase more than 1 copay at a time. let your salon software track the money

Re: pricing...again, sorry!

what area are you in? i know it seems strange to most of the salons out there, but in ca there are very few salons that have more then 6 or 7 beds. the price per square foot in my area is between 3-10 sq ft, we have smaller salons in the bay area, so instead of having a small salon with no selection of beds, MOST salons have between 4-8 beds usually with no more then two of the same. One salon near me has 2 of there low and two of their "medium" pressure beds, and then a old stand up and a spray, but no high pressure. In this area, my prices for walkin are VERY low. I do agree though, my package and EFT prices are HIGH. I just didnt know where to start. On an average day we see between 10-30 tanners. not a huge number. I have been open less then a year, but we arent hurting. THe economy also doesnt effect the bay area like it has effected most other areas. There is alot of people here, with a lot of money and nothing to spend it on besides botox, boobs, lips, hair, makeup and tanning. I also think we have a much higher amount of male tanners then most states.

So again....you say my prices are too high but i already knew that, what are your suggestions for new prices. Like i said, it is not possible for me to do 20.00 a month here. Id be crazy, and then i would have lines of people upset and waiting.

Also, when i do have a client come in for a bed that is in use, they usually wait or pay the uprgrade..its never been a problem yet.

my bed that gets used the most is the matrix, followed by a tie in the pacifca and harmony, the catalina was used about 1/4th of the amount of the rest and thats why i gave it the boot.

Re: pricing...again, sorry!

Everything costs more in the bay area it is just like NYC and Boston a totally different way of looking at money.

Re: pricing...again, sorry!

well if your only doing 10-30 people a day then i guess your setup could work. i think maybe you could benefit from loosing the 15 and 20 visit packages. make these people with disposable incomes buy more often

smaller packages
1 week unlimiteds
2 week unlimiteds

i cant suggest prices for you, i can only give ideas. i think you pricing structure is to complicated for 4 beds and spray.

i still think a low EFT with co-pays would serve you good. if you got clients that spend lots then you could end up with tons of people paying say $25 a month and barely ever coming. And when they do they pay again anyway.

i would put co-pay a little under 1/2 a single.

Re: pricing...again, sorry!

Carib tan man, thank you for all your advice/help. I really appeciate it. I think i will do away with the large packages. I have a Vday promo going right now that has two week unlimited packages, they have had a pretty good response..

So If i did a membership program, would you suggest charging 20, 25 30? and has anyone set this up on suntouch?

Re: pricing...again, sorry!

My EFT pricing is simple and it works well for me. I am sitting at 1986 EFT members as of today at one store. What is the lowest price someone is willing to pay and yet forget about paying me each month. Interesting line of thinking I know, but again it works for me. $18.95 is my low level all the way to $79.95.
