Rep Power: 8 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Sample stealing..... So I am thinking of injecting my desk samples with a very dark purple die. I just did inventory on them and it was off. Only had a few left and I had placed a huge order so I made sure I was accurate in counting. Order comes in and the count it right. I receive them. Two days later, today, I find out I am off by three. I know for a fact that two are MIA and where not sold since this particular packet is new to us and I did receive 18, now down to 16 of those. I am willing to think I did miss count on 1 packet, but doubtful. What triggered me to recount the 117 packets I SHOULD have on hand was when I walked into a room today to find a top of a packet on the floor and this new packet near empty in the trash. This was the second client in the room and I know the first did not take it because she has a bottle. Plus I would have noticed the packet top on the floor after cleaning. Also all the rooms got new bags in the trash at closing, so they were indeed empty. Anyway I take the packet and compare packing numbers, they are the same. So even if she brought it on the odds of having the same packing number is slim. Anyway. Ticks me off just like everyone else in the "customers stealing" thread. For now I rearranged the large bowl so Trinity is front and center for easy picking

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Re: Sample stealing..... we used to keep them out in a big basket and let them browse through, but no more. I bet that basket had about 75 samples in it and after about a month, the basket was over half empty and we had only sold about 15 packets, so I totally feel ya. we now have them behind the counter on display just out of reach. and like your customer, dumb enough to throw it in the trash after use. one girl that I was sure was stealing when we changed the set up even made the comment that she liked to dig through the basket, I said "I am sure you did, but they are not free and it seems that a lot of people thought they were". her eyes got real big. |

A teenage girl put a couple samples in her purse as the owner watched... She went up front to greet the girl and before she put her in her bed she asked, I noticed you picked out a couple samples, cash, credit, or check?... Girl looked surprised walked in the hall, took them out of her purse, and put them all back. I don't think she's been back in. It was funny though. Actually, the funny part was this girl INSISTED she did not like lotion, and wouldn't use it... even when offered FREE samples.

| Police Department ![]() | Re: Sample stealing..... It is incredible to me that ADULTS do that. For years I got companies to send me empty bottles and we filled them with water and glued the lid shut and we had those out on shelves. Sad because peopl could not open to smell them. I was SOOOOOOO tempted to put red dye in them but brushed it off because if they opened behind closed doors it would dye my carpet. I had the occasional bottle stolen but had the satisfaction of knowing that when they pried the top off they had water haha! I changed after we installed cameras and POSTED signs right at eye level at the lotions "For your Security there are cameras in this area" never have an issue now....so far. |

But even though it has a great view of anyone and everything, I set a "sensor area" by the samples. So if anyone reaches into that invisible area it starts recording in 30 seconds clips at a full 30 frames until there is no motion in that sensor area. So far its working very well.

Then I have special software called EVO Cam. It just takes the feed and lets you do whatever to it. Record, post to web, take images and post those, etc. Very simple but very versatile. Its cost me nothing, thats the best part :)

| Police Department ![]() | Re: Sample stealing..... BTW.....I think the purple dye would be a great lesson to a thief. It would be all over the palms of the hands....maybe a food dye that is safe to the skin. It is always fun to think about but in the end never works out especially if they try and wipe the dye off on something in your rooms or worse yet are dumb enough to lay on your acrylics with it. Perhaps just a nice shot of Tabasco sauce...imagine getting that near your rear ;) Ouch! |

We had a lot of problems too, until we got a stand (the spinning kind with hangers) I was very surprised at how many customers told us.."oh these are not free??" sigh. things have turned around more though since we got the display. Now I am working on a better lotion display, we keep them behind the counter now, but we are changing the counter and the displays so I am worried about walk offs..... |
