Question At my wit's end....

I need help

As some may or may not know, I've posted in the skincare section regarding our Hydration Station.

My problem?? I WANT to ask the company/trainer questions (in other words, i WANT education) and my employer will not get it for me. I am not allowed to call on my own (must follow chain of command) and he will not call them to have them talk to me or conference call them in.

What do I do?? HOW do I make him realize that I need to talk to the trainer?? He just keeps telling me to do as policy states. I believe the policy is wrong...as the employee training manual contradicts itself (just one of several questions I have for the trainer).

I must say, I've been a professional hairstylist for 20 years, and in all my years of training with techniques and products, i have NEVER had anyone tell me i could NOT have education.....the trainers even give you their business card in case you need to ask them anything.

HOW do i get thru to this man???

Any suggestions???

thanks

Why not call on your own time/phone? Seems pretty simple if you just want answers.

Re: At my wit's end....

I hope the trainers have gotten better. The two we had were not very good at all. Both are gone.

Re: At my wit's end....

Thanks you guys.... I appreciate each of you reading my post and taking the time to answer it....

I was just on the phone with the manager and talking to her about it. The more we talked, the more she was coming up with her own questions and agreed we need another training session. I told her that I could very well just call them on my own and ask my questions, but didn't know what would happen when I had my info to prove what the boss/owner is telling us is wrong. Would I get fired? It's one thing to KNOW the information, another thing to tell the boss he's wrong about the info he got from the company.... And, according to the manager, the training class they DID do here, was rushed. Something about it was late and bad weather and the trainer was leaving here for another class about an hour away..... Didn't sound like a good class experience in the first place....

It's the same thing regarding customers purchasing memberships.

Our basic club membership is EFTed at $24/mth.

Our cheapest "Premiere" club membership is EFTed at $74/mth.

Our area is a "middle income, both parents working" area. Gas is $3.60/gal. We are not the slums around here, but nor is our area "well to do" with the majority of households earning $75,000+ either.

We are trying to make the owner understand that people in this area just don't have $74/mth to put out for tanning. He says "Ya better sell 'em or we'll be out of business by September." What?! You can't MAKE people buy it.... We've been lucky to sell some of the basic club memberships ($24/mth), but not any of the Premiere's. The owner HAS money and just doesn't understand the economic crunch the country, and our area, has right now.....

I sound like a whiner....I don't mean to...I love my job and, besides the manager, I'm the only other one employed here who honestly cares how this business does. It's just frustrating with the man who owns this place...... The manager and I seem to run the salon pretty well......all we need is to get thru to him about what we need from him..... why is he so stubborn??? HE is going to be the reason this salon fails..... ...not from lack of trying on the manager & I's part....

Know your roll.....Its not up to you to decide wether the owners business fails or succeeds... you are employed to do a job, given guidlines, so follow them.
If you don't like the enviroment or the way that salon is run.......... move on.
I know if I was the owner and I saw, or heard about these posts, you would be fired. There is certain laundry that should not be aired...

Just do your job, if you can't sell 74 dollar packages, the owner will figure out why......
or close the salon.....

Re: At my wit's end....

I'm not understanding why the owner is refusing training to his employees ( I mean, I kinda understand since training costs him $$, but still.)??? We have mandatory trainings every couple months for all employees. If it were me, I'd keep asking about it until it happened.

There is a lot of info on the website though. If he doesn't feel the need to supply the training, you can read up on it yourself online or something.

That is my problem (& always has been)... I care TOO much and do MORE than what is expected of me at my job.... And, I'm sure YOU get your employees training and answers to their questions.... He won't get us "certified" because he'd have to close for a day and there'd be nobody to run the salon... I have a feeling, as an owner, YOU know what you're doing and have studied the industry.....my owner has not. I'm not airing dirty laundry, I am looking for help/advice. Simply, how to convince him to 'listen' to his employees???

I keep asking and asking and WILL continue to do so. I have gone over many websites, read a lot of info here (which is very helpful!) and read literature. I don't get it either??

Do you want to know what he says? Here's a "for instance" for you: He owns a restaurant. The manager's sister is a waitress there. She tans here (which is WAY out of her way, but wants to support his business...kind of like "promote" it). He will not allow her to tan here anymore (going to refund her her money) because she is getting "too dark" and doesn't want *black people* working in his restaurant. Now...huh?!? Why WOULDN'T you want an employee to be that tan and PROMOTE your other business??? That floored me when I heard it....
