Customer's brats in waiting room
OK, I have a sign clearly posted that states that no children unattended in the waiting room. I have a customer who brings her 2 boys in while she tans (never when I am there) and expects my employees to watch them. They are brats. Yesterday one ran outside and my manager had to catch him before he got flattened by a car. I obviously need to put a stop to this. How do I do this without offending her or risking losing her as a customer? She doesn't even ask if they can watch them, she just leaves them and goes and tans!

Re: Customer's brats in waiting room
#1 suggestion is to duct tape them to chairs and hang "free kids to good home" signs around their necks. Don't forget to use a piece of the duct tape over their mouth too...they have a tendency to make a lot of noise. #2 suggestion is to send Mom packing. If something happens to those kids Mom will own your salon. Don't even think twice about this. Either ask her to leave them at home or tan somewhere else. By the way, it's not their fault really. Their mother is a rude (she doesn't care about your rules) so they are just following her example.

Re: Customer's brats in waiting room
Add to your sign that you are not responsible if something happens to the children left unattended and also that the parent will be responsible if they break anything

Re: Customer's brats in waiting room
Just talk with her and say that you would hate for anything to happen to her kids and you/your staff cannot babysit them. It's for their own safety. Any parent that cares about their children would understand this. I tell them that it's too big of a liability. Find someone to watch your child or I don't let you tan, no matter how "well behaved" they are. One rule for everybody.

Re: Customer's brats in waiting room
We have a sign that says
"This is a special time for our valued clients, including you. Please make other arrangments for your children while you are here with us. If she brings her children with her after that remind her that she can not bring her children. |

Re: Customer's brats in waiting room
Ya... kids. Hate em, well their rude parental unit for bringing them. I had one take a running jump onto the new lotion bar counter and take the thing right off the wall. The "father with no back bone of year award" only came back to the front of the salon when the sister ratted her out. The father looks at me with a blank look, then says to the kids "you need to be careful." and they left.
"No children under the age of 12 permitted in salon." is now posted. One thing I found though is kids do NOT respond well to a stranger telling them to "shut up and sit down" in a stern voice. They dont expect it. Eventually they themselves will not even want to come to the salon! It would not be a problem if they behaved, but screaming and running all around the salon while breaking stuff is NOT acceptable!

Re: Customer's brats in waiting room
you definetly need to address this like a business owner with a lot riding on your business. don't you pour a lot of blood, sweat, tears and money into your place? a suggestion if this happens again... which is likely it will. instruct your employees to tell the children to sit down, be quiet and behave. then stop mom's tanning unit. when she comes out and says unit shut off early. explain that you turned it off becauase the kids were misbehaving and make sure when she asks if she can 'get that tan back'... the answer is no.

Re: Customer's brats in waiting room
Tell them that the specials are 2 for 1 beatings. One for the kid and one for the Mom for being stupid. I hate this especially when I get my nails or hair done and the kids are running amuck in the salons. I raised mine and she was never allowed. I have zero tolerance for misbehaved kids and parents that don't parent. Let the beatings begin!
