Re: LOTIONS SALES new manager

how do you determine how many uses they would get out of a bottle? It's a great idea!!!!

Well, average tanner needs approx .5oz. It doesn't take a lot of lotion to do the job, just a thin layer. You'd be suprised at how many people waste tanning lotion by gobbing it on!

Then I take the price of the bottle say $48 (8.5 oz) divided by roughly 20 uses = $2.40 per use.

Even with less than 20 uses, it's still smarter to purchase the bottle because it'll cost less in the long run vs buying a $5 packet.

I tell them the scientific facts. And I have a diagram on my counter for a visual aid.

1. Dry skin reflects up to 50% of the UV.
2. Unmoisturized skin is rough/bumpy with many peaks and valleys. UV will not distribute evenly. Properly moisturized skin absorbs the UV right away and is flat/smooth creating the best canvas for building an even tan.
3. Without lotion, our skin takes sometimes up to 8-10 minutes to begin creating its own natural oils to absorb the UV. Lotion speeds up that process.
4. If you have sensitive skin, there are many fragrance free/hypoallergenic options.

When customers learn this and realize how much $$ they are wasting because they are not properly moisturized, the lotions sell themselves. I tell my customers "I realize how expensive tanning lotions are but you have to think of it as an investment for your tan. They contain high quality overall skin care ingredients that last beyond your tanning session. You are spending all this money on tanning, don't you want to get the most you possibly can out of it?" I don't expect them all to pay full price for them all the time, so I let them know about any coupons/specials we might be running. They appreciate the knowledge.

Re: LOTIONS SALES new manager

I think commission is the best. As manager i also get commission on all sales. So I will teach them to sale. They want to because of the commission and the girls tell the new ones how much you can make selling lotion. Make commission part of the price of the lotion it cost you nothing.

When teaching make it simple. Suggest 3 bottles - the one you like and two others one $10 cheaper one $10 more expensive. Be honest. Get it on thier skin and get them to smell it Make them ask about lotion every time they sell something else. Its simple and for someone that is not a great seller it will make it easier for them. We always do good in lotion year in year out not always in tanning but lotion is always good.

Last year with what was my least experienced staff ever i set daily goals. My sales were included. Hit the goal two days in a row and for a week i will raise commission on any product .50 and any package .25 of the staffs choosing for one week. I thought with my weakest staff ever we might have a poor year in lotion. We did not and i now it was the money. I will do it again this but i will make the goals higher they just hit the goal too much - not such a bad thing though.

I actually made it myself after a training seminar that I went to. The presenter did hers in powerpoint form, so I just used the same idea and made my own. It's very basic (word doc) but it gets the point accross.

I'd be happy to send it to whoever. It really helps customers to actually see what we are trying to explain to them all the time.

I'm just totally honest and sometimes blunt with my customers, but I think that is what they appreciate the most about me.
