Salary for Managers/Asst Managers

I was just wondering what everyone is paying their Managers or Asst. Managers. I'm new to this business and am not really sure what the average pay is for managers. Are they on salary or hourly wage? How many hours do you typically have them work a week? The minimum wage is my state is $7.93/hr which is one of the highest, if not the highest, in the US, so I'm already paying out the a**! Do you give them bonuses? Just wondering what I need to offer to be competitive. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks!!

If you have only one or two salons.....I don't believe it is profitable to have a manager. In order to survive you must be an owner operator....

If you have multiple salons.........good luck.

I'm a little late on this, but oh my gosh, work it yourself! You'll never survive if you have all that payroll! Family members can be of some help too! Good luck though! :)

California's min wage is $8. If you live in SF it is $12. I pay my day girl that has been with me for over a year $10 plus comission. I started her at $9. I wanted her to stay with me and working the day shift she does ordering, interviewing etc. I make all the decisions and tell her what to do, but she takes a big load off of me. Although she is not really my assistant, when she gave notice (4 monhts in advance) I let her put assistant manager on her resume.

Active owner is the only way. Too easy in a cash business to be ripped off.

Re: Salary for Managers/Asst Managers

Our managers make 36k per year plus bonus and commision (avg. $44k total). Assistants only make $8 to $10 per hour plus commission (their payday comes when they get into management).
Kinda like the saying from the movie Ray... "when you think nickels you get nickels... but when you think dollars you get dollars".
You get what you pay for, if ya know what I mean.
Good Luck to you.

See I am active, just at night. Cameras with audio and key stroke recorder on the computer helps alleviate most the issues as does hiring wisely

Re: Salary for Managers/Asst Managers

Its going to depend on what they have to do.

1% of the gross - my baby would starve. I get paid very well but my does does no more than a few hours of salon work a year.
