Re: My first firing
I find once a parent calls me that it is over for that employee. I have also found it is a bad idea to tell parents that thier child is doing a good job. i thought parents only called me. my mopm or dad would have beat my arss and told me to find another job. i hope i will be a good parent in areas like this.
how many of you have every been fired? i never have been. kids get stupider every year. |

Re: My first firing
I fired my first a few weeks ago, same stuff giving away free tans, letting friends take lotions. then $1500 was missing over the weekend when I came back monday morning, with only 2 keys out besides mine. One I trust 110% been here from the begining with out a single problem. The other one, showed up but was never real smiley, happy type, kinda short with people etc... I called a cop friend of mine and told him the deal so we set up that he would be here when I questioned her then he would take over. She started crying and admitted the free tans and her friends talking about stealling but never saw them, said she new nothing about the money being stolen either. No cameras so could prove nothing. I dont think she took the money but I bet her friends got a hold of her keys. Looking at getting a camera system, if anybody has any suggestions let me know.

Re: My first firing
Number 1: I don't hire anyone under the age of 25, because of this very reason. I had so many complaints about the young girls, they don't know where to put people or when its real busy they panic. All its good for is a hang out for their friends and for them to tan for free. I would walk in and there would be about 20 kids just hanging out taking up parking places and making a mess I just said no more of this crap! My business now is booming without the children working.

Re: My first firing
I just fired a 16 year old about two months ago. Gave her several chances to straighten up but always back to the same crap. I would come in to a mess the morning after she worked, floors not vacuumed, wastebaskets full, displays a mess. The final straw was when I came in and there were bread sticks ground into the floor, about an 8 inch pop spill on the carpet, paraffin wax peeled off their hands and thrown on the floor, gouge in the wall from chair, and the biggie - customer told me two of her friends were sitting at my nail table doing each others nails.
After I fired her I had so many people tell me they were glad I did. Even her friends said that when she worked this was the hangout for all her friends. When customers came in they were greeted with a very unenthusiastic Hi, like they were disturbing her. Found out she let friends tan free, which I suspected from the start. Later I started noticing things missing, two $24.00 nail brushes, about 10 nail polishes, stuff like that. So glad I let her go. It was stressing me out so bad. I was trying to work with her because she was young and this was her first job. No more Mr. Nice Guy and no more employees under 18. Works for me. Now all the girls at the high school are mad at her, because of her I no longer hire under 18. |

Re: My first firing
I like the 3 stike rule and I never had my first job untill after collage myself my sister had her first job when she was still in high school but she was very very responsible, Myself I didn't feel ready or mature enough untill after collage. That worked to my advantage.
