Re: Could I get an experienced mgr for $40k a year?
If you pay a large salary you will eventually have a bad employee that is not working enough hours. It is my belief that you must pay a manager an hourly wage with a required minimum number of hours worked. You must also pay commission and I also recommend an override commission on the other employees sales. This will motivate performance. Sales Plato's should also be part of the equation. Never leave a manager completely unsupervised, it is important to evaluate performance.
You must also have an employee manual that determines all duties of each employee including managers. There is a formula for evaluating sales performance of all employees including managers. |

Re: Could I get an experienced mgr for $40k a year?
It is a very good idea to establish general and specific job title guidelines.
Job Description Management duties relating to salon expenditures, and hiring must be coordinated with the tanning center owners. The following is a list of, but not limited to the responsibilities associated to a particular employment position. Manager Sales Data entry Scheduling Training new and existing employees Opening & closing procedures Salon maintenance, equipment cleaning and laundry (See Bed Cleaner duties) Coordinate: Advertising Product reordering Out-side service procurement Interviewing new employees Hiring new employees Assistant Manager Sales Data entry Training existing and new employees Opening and closing procedure Salon maintenance, equipment cleaning and laundry (See Bed Cleaner duties) Sales Associate Sales Data entry Training existing and new employees Opening and closing procedure Salon maintenance, equipment cleaning and laundry (See Bed Cleaner duties) Bed Cleaners Laundry & fold towel as needed Sanitize equipment after each use (Top & bottom acrylics, pillows, seating. At the end of each day the outside of all equipment, including console must be cleaned with a mild soap and water solution. All trash cans must be emptied Restrooms must be cleaned and all floors swept. Every day one piece of equipment must be deep cleaned; this function will require assistance from a second person. (See maintenance schedule). All employees are required to wear uniformed clothing including a shirt with logo. No exceptions. All employees are required to be present at least 15 minutes prior to work shift in order to get organized before the shift begins. All employees must be trained in the proper use of indoor tanning equipment, and the services and products we provide, as well as proper salon & phone etiquette. Only Managers and Managers in training are allowed behind the front desk. |

Re: Could I get an experienced mgr for $40k a year?
you dont need all that for one salon. you tell the manager they are responsible for everything from the front door to the back door.
an hourly wage? that would mean that one could only work 40 hours a week or you would be paying overtime. 40 hours a week? where do i sign up? |

Re: Could I get an experienced mgr for $40k a year?
it all depends on what you want them to do. if you are looking for someone to serve as an assistant to an owner operator, absolutely. if you are looking for someone to run it for you, so you can pursue other interests or activities; probably not. i would definitely reccomend a salary plus commission structure. the most surefire way to get someone to care about your business is to make their income rely on the salon profitting. good luck!

Re: Could I get an experienced mgr for $40k a year?
I think some of you salon owners have never been to a tanning salon in a real college town, they can do up to 400 tanners in a day. That means serious money since half will pay as they go. I live in a small town of about 40 thousand and will do over $20k just for the month of March and $25 to $30 for April and yes I have a full time manager who gets a salary and this is why I can sit here on my butt and talk to you my friends!
