We can't even afford to pay ourselves 40K ... seriously. It all depends on your total overhead and expenses. I agree with others here, that does seem a bit high for a base, and incentive to make $40k or more if they perform, and make YOU money.

perhaps its a big salon? Perhaps the owners aren't taking in a huge profit? I hope or I am in the wrong state I couldn't afford to pay myself and someone else $40,000 thats $80,000.....shoot If I could pay out $80,000 a year I would work all 60 hours myself....wait I work 50 for ohhh well nevermind.... okay for peanuts......ohh and free tans thats right....
If it was me.......hiring a manager depending on experience you could even go less....
600 a week before taxes + bonus based on sales....thats close to 14 dollars an hour at 45 hours a week.....50 hours that 12 bucks on hour.....not to shabby.....

From what most salon owners are saying, I don't think no more than 1% could afford a manager, let alone pay them $40,000 a year.

Well honestly 40K come on i mean i had a bed cleaner the other day go all im makn is minimum wage im like wtf????

I will agree with a lower base. My base is lower than 40k but i get a piece of all sales. I know i can sell and i know i will do what has to be done in all areas that i am responsble for. Getting a piece of everything makes me make sure that i teach and have people that can sale when im not there. I work 40 to 65 hrs a week.
