Re: grand opening

Run some specials for your tanning to get them in the door. Maybe talk to the other businesses in your plaza and see if you can all collaborate on some advertising things or something like that. Look at all the ideas on here, especially the free tan days, they work well for us and it will get people in the door. People will probably naturally flock to you anyway because you are new, so wow them and you'll be set.

Re: grand opening

you really couldnt get better than a gym and nail salon for your neighbors! go in there and use them to your advantage...hand out free visit cards, give employees of those business a free package each. their clients will notice the tan and mention it to them bringing up your salon. put these people to work for you.

as PC mentioned free tan day or weekend COULD be good. im not a fan of them but if it works it works. This time of year is tuff to get anybody tanning. i would do FREE tans with a sample/cup lotion purchase. Call Devoted Creations and Designer Skin get some free promo stuff and then sell it cheap.

get gift certificates or cards and give them to radio stations for giveaways...alot of the smaller stations will jump all over that.

hit up the high schools also.

Re: grand opening

Not trying to rain on your parade but this is the worst time of year to be having a grand opening. That is like having a grand opening for a water park in the middle of winter.
I know this is probably coming off sarcastic & I truly don't mean for it to but why would you be opening a tanning salon now? Did you research the market before opening? I really want to know because we had someone open one here around the same time of year & was trying to sell within the first year.

That's why I was asking...I just hope there is enough money to pay bills for at least 3 more months.

Re: grand opening

Maybe try to run a special of some sorts and save a big free tan day or your big grand opening for like around late february or march. This is a bad time of year for everyone, but you still need to do something to get your client base built up.

Re: grand opening

Hi there, looks like alot of great ideas already. A few we tried and worked well for us was 1. Placing a colored Ad in our local paper with a good catch phrase or heading (for your readers.) 2. placing an ad in your local high school paper with a FREE lotion or single visit (something small but worthwhile for your younger broke crowd). And 3. Placing a large and colorful inflatable hot airbaloon on the roof stating "GRAND OPENING!" (for your drive by's that need a "visual") I realize there not always cost effective nor are they available in all areas so you could consider a large quanity of small heliom ballons in bright colors bunched together with a banner across your building/entrance way saying the same or "NOW OPEN!" Also where in MI? We are also in Michigan - it's freezzzzzzing!!!

I opened my first salon in October and I think this is the best time to open. You can get all of the problems out before busy season starts and if you are hiring employees you can train them one on one and they can have your full attention.

I wouldn't recommed doing a grand opening right now, I would wait until Jan or Feb and then have a huge blow out. Are you involved in your Chamber of Commerce? If so they will help you promote. Best of luck to you!!!
