The best way to sell a salon?

We need to sell our salon by the end of this summer, August or so. My husband's job is requiring us to relocate to another state and we don't want to do the absentee owner thing.

What is the best way to sell a salon? Newspaper? Broakers? Sign in the door? I realize that business sales can take a long time, but I hope we can get this done soon. I don't want to get left benind!

Any suggestions? TIA.

when we put our salon up for sale, we had it sold, twice. Both our customers. Changed our mind though. There is probably some customer you can think of that may be interested? I'd not put a sign on the door though, people will stop buying from you if they think you are selling because often the new owners don't honnor the left over tanning, or not for very long.

Re: The best way to sell a salon?

IMO, I would not do too much advertising, people will get "skitish" (spelling??) thinking that you are fixing to close. Word of mouth works well, I would call some salons in neighboring towns and see if they ae looking to expand their business. At my LAST resort I would call my comp. and see if they are wanting to expand. Try someone in a nearby town first, though.

Re: The best way to sell a salon?

Another question to add onto this. I need to know what to sell my salon for. I have no idea. It has established clientel, good cash flow, 3 tanning beds, spray tanner, hair stylist paying rent, massage therapist paying rent and a soon to be nail tech paying rent. it is located in a decent sized town in Colorado.

Re: The best way to sell a salon?

What is decent size? 10K, 50K, 100K? Just curious---I am a newbee and really have no idea what they sell for, so I am sorry, but I am of no assistance...However, I am curious how it relates to other markets.

Kacee--Could you check your messages? I left you one two days ago (or so), but am sure you have not seen it (as I did not even know I had messages waiting for me). There is a tiny "messages" link at the very top of your screen, right below the TANTALK logo. Anyhoo, I wanted to ask you a few questions regarding the operations of your salon, but I do not want to get off the subject of this "thread". Thanx!

Re: The best way to sell a salon?

I tried selling my salon myself, and meet alot of scammers.

Use a broker, they will also help determine the value to sell at.

When I finally listed with a broker my salon sold 2 weeks later.

Good luck & best wishes!!

Years?
Hours?
