Re: PLANET BEACH MOVING IN

I work with a number of Planet Beach locations who buy little items from me, like a starter or lamp here and there. I really do not see what makes them so different. They are individual salon owners and run their business how they see fit. I do not think they pose a threat at all because they are just like any other small business owner.
Now Palm Beach Tan, they would make me run for the hills. They come in and give everybody their first month of tanning free when they open in an area. They are very agressive. Also the Hollywood Tan folks are pretty aggressive. They do tons of marketing in our area. But Planet are more like you average small buisness owners.

Re: PLANET BEACH MOVING IN

Had one open up here too. I keep forgeting they are there, if you get my drift. Just reminded when another new client comes in complaining about them. I just keep my mouth shut and start the tour.

Re: PLANET BEACH MOVING IN

Lets look at a bigger picture. If you are less than you should be as a salon and the only thing that may motivate you to be a better salon is the threat of a bigger better salon moving in, than my friend you have already lost.

Instead would it not be smarter to, starting today identify all of the things about your salon that are potentially costing you business ( Pricing, marketing, advertising, appearance, quality of employee and training) and fix them. If you are properly structured and have a solid proven marketing program that has something for every tanner, there is no way that any other salon can gain an advantage over you. If you are not competing it will not be because of another salon, it will be because of all of the things you are not doing. The competition can only gain by your mistakes. You dictate your success not your competition.
