Re: Appointments, or not?
no appointments anymore -huge difference -phones nnot ringing off the hook all the time no worries about running behind schedule etc. keep taking them for the rest of the season and then go to no appt. that's what we did last year and it worked great!

Re: Appointments, or not?
we have a no show fee, give us 2hrs notice and you are all good, or if you call last minute and we can still fill your bed no problem, other then that you gotta pony up. works well, but we have alot of students so most of them just drop in cause they dont know the next time they will be in.

Re: Appointments, or not?
No apts. here either, and we only hae 10 beds, works great! Of coarse we WERE 8 beds and I just added 2 more to help with the heavy traffic time!
You will spend too much time on the phone scheduling, people calling "what time is my apt?" and your staff having to call people to tell them to come in? They could be pushing a sale at that time! Like someone said before, some people will complain at first (the ones that are used to having the apt. time and keeping it) but you will make more of your clients happy without the appointments. |

Re: Appointments, or not?
You have to give the walk-in only policy some heavy thought, if you have a list of people waiting for your call, you simply don't have enough beds. That isn't gonna change when you change your policy, you'll have a waiting room full of people. The phones may not ring as often and you can simply do first-come/first-serve but you'll have plenty of people mad when they can't get in for more than 20 minutes and you'll have calls asking "how busy are you?"
We take appts but many people walk in. When the salon is at it's busiest, there are several turn downs each day...and you can't get to everyone. Prom time is a nightmare. We could have 3 times as many beds for those few weeks. It seems we have the most trouble with no shows during these peak periods. More of the tanners who are usually last minute/walk in tanners feel forced to set appts to get in and as a result, they usually are my no shows. I usually give them a warning, friendly but stern...they are kids but they understand when they think it will cost them... |

Re: Appointments, or not?
I call no-shows JICs, an abbreviation for "Just in Case." They're people who don't want to have to wait, but they don't care if other people do, so they make an appointment "just in case" they decide to tan. My recommended solution is to compile the JIC list -- people who have a no-show history. Then treat them like you were a doctor's office -- meaning if you get a serious client, let the walk in go first and, if the JIC should happen to show up, tell them you're running a little late. Please have a seat.
